New Wheels On Warranty?

Featured Replies

I recently took my 2004 VRS up to the dealership as the finish on the insides of the spokes has started to bubble and peel off.

They said they would take pictures and send them off to Skoda UK, but a week later, when i asked how they went, he simply said u'll b very lucky.

He said that because the wheels were slightly curbed (no damage near the inside of the spokes though), they would class them as damaged so wouldn't replace them on warranty.

Has anybody else had wheels replaced or am i wasting my time?

I know Toyota replaced all the wheels on the Early MR2 Roadsters, because of bubbling free off charge and out of warranty on some. Not as a recall, but for those who did ask.

I think they should even though you may have knocked them yourself. As the bubbling is not your fault.

They'd look at it if it was body work paint. Does the paint warranty not cover the alloys, anyone ?????

Maybe try another dealer.

I used to replace them under warranty

But it used to be the technical manager that had to have a look and have the final say.

If you feel hard done by give customer care a call and complain

They are quite good (well they was in my day) let them know

It is covered for 10 years bodywork and 3 years for the paint

So let them know your not happy

When my Vrs goes in for a service I am going to bring this up with them as well. I asked a similar question a few weeks back as my paint has been peeling off my alloys (06 plate). Only problem is that the worst alloy has also been curbed :(

To be honest it wouldn't matter if they had been curbed as long as that is not the cause of the damage.

I'f you'd had a rear end shunt and then the paint started to fall off of the roof, you wouldn't say that it wasn't covered would you.

The warranty specifically covers failure due to manufacturering defects.

We had 4 new wheels on the L&K Mk1 Octy at about 50000miles as they were corroding from the centre caps out, that was a couple of years ago.

I did a warranty claim on 1 alloy being a differnt shade than the rest

Same problem on mine fronts some rapidly advancing corrosion on back of spokes less so on rears but still starting to go also some round center caps and valves. The garage has sent my claim to skoda still waiting result. Garage tried to fob me off with the old its the road conditions sir my reply was if it is the road conditions then the wheels after just 1 1/2 years and 15 000 miles are not fit for purpose!

we've changed quite a few sets of Mazda MX5,6 and RX8 alloys , all for corrosion , we had to get prior approval first though, but Mazda never to my knowledge asked for pictures of the wheels

I have processed a few warranty claims for wheels (not Skoda), always had to get prior approval and send pictures but never had a problem. It is a manufacturing/material defect, the paint protection is too thin on the edges of the spokes, therefore the manufacturing process is not adequate for the UK market, which should take our road conditions (gritting/salt in winter) into account.
