DASHBOARD GREMLIN RETURNS

Featured Replies

My creaky dashboard has returned with a vengeance.

When the car/heater is cold, the central area creaks and cracks intermittently. However, when hot the left hand side creaks continuously and the central one stops.

Having seen the dealer a number of times when I first got the car to not much avail, I would rather try tackle this myself, but these modern dashes are like bank safes to get into. Has anyone had the same problem i describe and if so what is the best way to tackle it.

(the left hand side creak does stop if you apply enough force to the lower dash)

Please help before I go insane.

Was looking at selling this car, but couldnt possibly while it does this!

I presume its not caused by the central dash mount bracket!

Mine has an intermittent creak from the left hand side of the dash. in the general area of the A pillar. It only creaks when its really cold though and soon goes away so i cant quite pinpoint it at the moment.

Its either the glove box or a pillar trim.

I'll let you know if i find a solution.

I am not familliar with the fabia, but the octavia dash is supprisingly easy to take apart. I did it when I put in the new stereo to ease wire installation.

In my RS I have 2 annoying rattles at this time, 1 from the dash somewhere around the glovebox, and another from the rear passenger side somewhere thats really noticable at low speed. Used to have a third but a strategically placed folded piece of paper jammed in between the door and the trim fixed that.

I think it's something to with the air ducting expanding and contracting, which would explain the differences between cold and hot, but I am not sure how to get at them. As for the Glovebox, it has been replaced, and to settle my own curiosity, I even took the entire glovebox out and drove it for a day, the creaking was still there.

I did think maybe the heater itself, which is located on the bulkhead behind the glovebox might be the cause but I can't get at that. I'll keep trying. Are the vent covers easy to take out, especially the small one on the left, I don't want to damage them or not be able to put them back.

I too had a annoying creak originating from the Glovebox.

Managed to erradicate it by screwing a rubber grommet ( the kind you can get from any DIY shop)

in between dash and glovebox on the Stereo side.

Just open the glovebox and use a self tapper to fix obviously the grommet is black so you dont even know its there
