Tyre choice and Road noise

Featured Replies

I wanted to repeat another recent thread's endorsement of the Toyo tyres but wanted to emphasise how much quieter they are than the original Bridgestones fitted. I replaced them same size Toyo T-1-R just before an expedition across Europe and can confirm that the harshness of the road noise has ben greatly reduced. The ride also seemed less figdety on older worn out bits of motorway at home too. The Toyos were fitted for about

I can also heartilly recomend Kumho Ecsta KH-11s for their performance and very low noise.

How noisy are the P-Zero Nero's then?

:iagree: . I ditched the OEM Michelins on my Fabia vRS for Toyos because of the noise, and found the Toyos to be much quieter.

Those would be the Primacys I presume. A different matter with Michelin Pilot Exalto2s - they are much quieter (than the Primacys) had them on my Fabia and now on my Octavia vRS to good effect.

I would agree though that Toyos are probably a degree quieter than the Exalto2s BUT from experience of Toyos they are not as reponsive or 'sharp' to turn-in & handling requirements. All depends how you drive I guess.

Why should we have to keep changing tires to reduce road noise just because the highway authorities refuse to lay the correct road surface, we pay enough in bloody road taxes.

We have several stretches newly laid exceptionally quiet road and it is very, very noticeable as you move from one to the normal road surface.

I totally agree.

I use a section of M'way daily where the outside and middle lanes have recently been resurfaced, at the position of the slip road I use for an exit, and are 'quite' but the nearside lane is older and 'noisy'. It gives an interesting acoustic effect when I move from the middle lane to nearside to slip road and go from 'quiet' to 'noisy/quite' to 'noisy'.

Still; this doesn't alter the fact that different tyres produce differing amounts of noise!
