You Won`t Belive It 06 Furby Vrs Owners Beware

Featured Replies

HI Everyone

It`s been a long time since I`ve last posted on this site due to work REALLY MISSED IT.:D

Right here goes my wife has a furby vrs 06 plate and recently serviced she noticed a high pitch whistle noise when driving home last week took car into doncaster skoda where we bought it from.

The car has only done 10200 miles and it`s just had a brand new turbocharger fitted and intercooler pipes I was completely gobsmacked due to owning an audi tdi and it`s virtually the same engine thought they were near flawless I couldn`t believe it and the lady i spoke to told me that they have replaced a few this week and one that had it done two weeks ago:eek:

But the high pitch whistle is still there and it`s stuttering again even though the uk skoda fix has been done and i had only driven 10 minutes from the dealer it`s going in again next week.

But it`s nice to be back. :D

It will still be stuttering, the UK Skoda 'fix' doesn't fix it. Fixing it means it doesn't meet Euro 4 emissions regs anymore so they can't do it.

As for the car having a new turbo and pipework and its still making a whistling noise i'd hazzard a guess that the turbo wasn't at fault.

why should we be aware?

surely this is a problem in the minority?

mines fine and coming upto 12k miles and I'm well aware of loads of other 06 vrs's going well past this mark.

talk about scare mongering

my 06 vrs (15k miles) has just had a new erg valve and turbo, just bad luck I suppose.

PD turbos are notoriously bad, but some dealers do seem to change them at the drop of the hat.

yeah well I only took mine in because the valve was leaking. no sign that the turbo was going but they decided to replace it also.

You can find that a whistle is the alternator......

or the Power Steering Pump... if you turn the steering one way and then the other sounds like the cops have there sirens on!

Mines just topped 20k is pulling like a train. Fingers crossed it will see me into the next generation Vrs without fault.

might get mine booked in mine is making a strange noise when comes on full boost dont

mine did 80k, with 50k of that with a cheap resistor mod throwing tons of fuel through it, and was going strong without faults when I got rid :) thumbs up!

I hope this was turned off when students got into the car? although you do have another go slower pedal!

It wasnt that quick, just lots of black smoke from the overfuelling...and a rubbery smell;)

you have got me worried now! when i put my foot down it whistles from bout 2000 to 3250 revs but thought that was just the turbo being normal or am i getting paranoid now???

Mine whistles too, sounds the the police are in the distance sometimes, 2007 56 reg 4k on the clock

Brisky is excellent  - has lots of info, lots of nice peeps willing to help  , but reading up (too much) can also make you paranoid about noises, squeaks, rattles and on and on..........:thumbdwn:

I have a 2004 vRS and the turbo does whistle when it's spooling up, but this is only heard when the window is down.

It may be something more if the noise is really loud, but other than that, I'd say it's just normal turbo operation.

Like anonymouse said, reading too much into things will make you paranoid.

you can hear mine when the window is up and the stereo on min. its when im on boost and sounds like something sucking in air but at a higher pitch. really hard to explain!

  • 4 weeks later...

i had my 10k service and asked them about the noise bein so loud and they said that is normal on a furby vrs but checked it just incase.

There do seem to be a lot of turbos from the Seat/Skoda side of things that fail compared to other VAG cars. My 20vts KO3 went at 20K before it was mapped. The FVRS also used a KKK unit and most maps put it well beyond its specified comfort zone bar wise.

Audi and VW use a Garrett turbo in TDi PDs, which a lot of people, inc Turbodynamics, seem to think is a stronger unit.

My mates standard VRS had its turbo go pop at 22K. Seems to be a lottery, but as and when I blow mine up, I'll be going for somthing a bit stronger.

Is the whistle a steady pitch and volume, or does it get louder / higher as she goes faster? It could be something daft like wind noise - the wing mirrors can make a heck of a racket if the various bits aren't hard up against each other...

There's also a mystery whistle on startup on cold days that gets discussed here from time-to-time - although as it's June I'm guessing it's not that!

are you sure your not thinking of passats/A4's etc with longitudinal engines as i think these may use different turbo's but hey i am often wrong :)

the whistle is a steady pitch and volume from 2000rpm to 3000rpm. when i floor it down the streets people all look at me as they can hear the whistle aswell. someone asked me if i had tuned my engine but mine is standard. dealer said it came up wit no faults and quite a few 06 furbys make that whistle.

My 54 fab vRS whistles when it's started but only after a few minutes of idling, you can hear a change in pitch but i'm assuming thats just the turbo doing things. it stops after about 20 seconds.

My '06 has done nearly 28,000 miles and was remapped at 4,000. No popping turbos just a bit of spool up whistle when the windows down.
