Mod

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Thought I'd be cheeky and ask a few questions for my first post.

Got my new black magic vRS a few weeks ago and want to change the standard fit cd player to a better unit, also I was thinking of replacing the standard headlamp bulbs with the vision plus ones, would these changes affect my manufacturers warranty?

A little further down the line I would like to fit the Seat strut brace and the PD160 air intake, again how would these mod's affect my warranty.

Thanks and be gentle.

I beleive any "mods" will void your warranty, however it's best to read over the skoda warranty docs to make sure.

You will most likely be ok with the headunit, not sure on headlights. Mods usually only void the warranty on associated parts, so for example if the wiring went faulty then it would not be covered.

A little too general...

I think changing the CD player and bulbs might void parts of warranty, electrics for example. But the rest of the car will still be covered...

The PD160 intake and strut brace, again only certain warranty issues, but you'd be unlucky (and you can quickly and easily take it off, if going in for warranty work...)

EDIT - just too late!

head lights should be ok if you do have any problems andn want to take the car back just swop back again as far as the head unit i would say the same i wouldnt worry about it to much i have changed the cd player ,front fogs for 100w, fitted a strut brace, jabba rear arb and the car is not eaven 3 months old yet if i get any problems as a result of my mods most parts are eaisley removed and i could take the car back.

Thanks for your replys.

From these, I gather that almost any mod will have some sort of effect on my warranty. So keeping the original parts to change back if anything does go wrong is the best bet.

Thanks again.

Although Skoda may be able to tell a mod has been fitted (or they may already know you have them fitted through reading this forum).... bottom line is if you can't afford to lose the warranty, then don't do anything that could risk it :D

I've changed my head unit and Skoda did not quibble about my heaters being rubbish and then when my blowers went crazy and the recirculation was back to front. Having said that, they caused the second fault so they didn't really have a leg to stand on there! :D

But in terms of wiring, a head unit is normally ok unless it's clear the HU was the cause.

i put new alloys on, will this have mucked up the warrenty?

stu.

If they are a different size and weight to the standard ones then any faults in the suspension that could have been caused by this may not be covered.

A lot of it depends on how your dealer wants to play it

Agreed. It all depends on how awkward they want to be and whether the problem will be expensive or not. Changing your alloys then finding your Symphony head unit has screwed up though should still be ok. That kind of thing.

At the end of the day though, the dealer could try and blame anything on anything. For example, Mr Hellfire had a problem with his seat base which the dealer attributed to "the extra forces the remap was applying to it". Whether it is the cause or not is irrelevant really and it depends on your dealer's attitude and you may find modding will mean you'll have the hassle of convincing/fighting with them every time you put in for a warranty claim.....

[CYNICAL MODE] and of course ,if the dealer had done those mods - everything would be ok[/cynical mode]
