keys locked in Furby in boot - HELP

Featured Replies

i opened the doors on the car, to place something in the boot, i forgot and put keys in boot floor, went for something and wind had closed boot lid. only to find because i didnt open the doors. the car had also self locked :(

i called the R*C , 3.5 hoursr later wedging doors, back feeding from reversing lights etc etc etc. he could still not get in the car. he had to call his depot to arrange my son to get my spare keys and have them brought to me 2.5 hours drive away.

what a nightmare.. lol

for future reference if this happend again, is there any way to open the fabia doors or boot, without damage to the car ??

a lot of cars can be bypassed if something like this happens, is the fabia one of the few that cannot ?

thanks everyone Rich

I thought the Fabia wouldnt auto lock whilst the keys are anywhere in the car. i know my mums Octy wont, and i leave my keys on my seat in my vRS all the time and it never autolocks? When they are not in it does after so many secs, must be some kinda chip in the key fob??? I duno?

Auto lock only works when the fob is used to open the boot and you then close the boot. The autolock for doors comes into effect if you unlock the car and then do not open the door or boot.

Ahhh. Cool, cheers mate.

If you are reffering to me then I suggest you think again matey. If I knew how to get into a Fabia without the keys, do you really think I'd tell anyone, especially somone whom I don't know and only has 4 posts on this forum and probably most of them in this thread.

As a Fabia owner would you be happy for such information to be made available to all and sundry and thus allowing them to relieve you of your car and belongings.

i know that the AA have large books covering the breaking into vehicles when the keys are locked in , so i'm certain the RAC would have the same , so i would assume the RAC man did his best to get in

if the doors were double locked , he would never of got in through them .

maybe popping a window would have been the quickest way of getting in, the rear quarter glass being the cheapest option , then flicking the rear seat back down and retrieving the keys with a coat hanger

Well said. Also Rich-VRS, bear in mind that VRStu has god-like powers and can wipe you from the face of the forums in a mouseclick.

Serious note, this is a civil forum and you asked a question, yes you got a few humourous replies but also some factual ones (including the first reply to the post). There is no excuse for that sort of abuse though.

Bleeding henry!

Where did all that come from, Stu's reply was IMHO perfectly civil.

If there was a weakness in a cars security, most sane people won't go posting it up in the open for all to see as a car thief would love this sort of information.

In all honestly when somebody locked themselves out of a car due to a flat battery and having it de locked, the best suggestion was in fact to break a side window or somehow get under the bonnet and charge the battery.

I'd seriously suggest not going in all guns blazing as people were only trying to help or having a friendly joke to try and lighten the situation.

Maybe you would consider apologising regarding that previous post as I can only assume you were having a bad moment.

For future reference, the guys with their names in red are the forum moderators and are generally not good people to p*ss off.

Anyway you should speak to your dealer about possibly turning off the auto lock feature. People who have VAG-COM can probably also do this for you, however you seem to have successfully annoyed one of the most useful and friendly of those people.

I hope you get a solution that meets your needs.

I have to agree VR Stu. The last thing anyone would want is a surge in thefts from fabias after it was revealed on a forum how to break into them.

This happened to me, and although it didn't take the AA man anywhere near as long as the guy in the original post, I found it quite interesting that the method described in the AA man's manual didn't work!!! Shaln't say how he eventually got in, but was not amused when the first thing he said after siging the waiver was "Right, which window do you want me to put through?!" :P

Mind you, the method he did use wasn't 100% damage-free, so although I was able to put it right myself, part of me did wish he'd just smashed a window... :( Seems the Fabia's a tough little car to break into!

(If that's not the kiss of death! )

My neighbor locked her mother's car keys in her car. Felt quite smug breaking in less than 5 minutes without any damage - but it was quite worrying how easy it was, given that I'm not a professional criminal. (or a criminal of any description). Especially as the car is only 3 years old.

It's reassuring that the Fabia seems more difficult - I had always thought it a given that anyone with a bit of practice could get into a car quite easily. Of course it's easier to brick the window if it's not your car and you plan on pegging it away immediately after doing so.

And this is the thing, pretty much any car is easy to break into if you know the "backdoor" into it. Still, at leas the Fabia doesn't suffer from the Golf problem where you could unlock the doors, lower the windows and disable the alarm with just a well placed screwdriver!

Chris

I know an estate where if you leave your car they will get in.........................although they probably wouldn't let you in too.........or give it back

I thought the Fabia wouldnt auto lock whilst the keys are anywhere in the car.

pardon my thickness, but how does the car "know" where the keys are?

pardon my thickness, but how does the car "know" where the keys are?

It doesn't. The autolock is just on a 30 second timer so if you unlock the car and don't open a door/boot, it'll relock itself. I guess it's designed for people like me who manage to sit on their keys and unlock the car without realising!

Chris

To Rich VRS:

You asked a question and got some answers, whats with all the hassle? Attitudes like yours arnt appreciated on a forum founded on people helping each other for no other reason then they can, and want to.

I personally agree, why in any fabia owners right mind would you want someone to decribe how to break into your car on a public forum?

pardon my thickness, but how does the car "know" where the keys are?

Not your thickness, my thickness! I didnt realise how it worked, i thought there was a way how the car would know if the keys were in.

In my mums ltd ed Octy diesal, if I open the car and leave the keys on the seat and shut the door and walk away it doesnt lock. But if i open the door get something and shut the door (taking the keys with me) it will autolock! I have just tried it now???

Unless i am in one huge day dream or missing something. Nevermind, maybe i am just brain dead due to too much revising!
