Had a thought on this, what about using the remote through a couple of mobile phones?

LOL, does that actually work? A while back I got sent an email with loads of mobile phone tips, and this was one of then, thought it was all ********. Is it? :o

It's tosh.

However, find the max range of your fob. double the distance between you and car, put fob to head and watch the car open!

Maybe that's an option for rich.....

Rich,

Calm down, people on here really do offer top advice. I don't often contribute but I read the posts almost every night. If you keep on carrying that huge chip on your shoulder someone will brick your window without your request

pardon my thickness, but how does the car "know" where the keys are?

Nissan Micras had this feature 4 years ago:eek: Puts many of the so called Prestige brands to shame.

I noticed that when I was looking for a new car last year and loved the idea, but hated the thought of driving around in such an ugly car:rofl:

well a very interesting thread!!

This forum has also been invaluable to me and my wee fabia for all sorts of bits and bobs.

Did the same thing locking myself out of my car in the pxxxxxg rain outside of work, problem being that I am a travelling music teacher and I had 2 other schools to go to the same day. Called the aa and as expected the lad couldnt break into my car very easily but i thought that was a good thing!! Also had the offer of removing all sorts of bits from my car and bypassing some stuff! Thought this might not be great for warranty or car as its already had stuff done to it! So the guy from the aa took me to my wifes work to take me home as I also managed to lock in my house keys as well!! Felt like a total fxxxy!!

hey ho!!

Just a note, AA no longer have books in the vans with Effect Entry information in.

All effect entry and locking data is stored on computer and is double password protected.

Computers are locked in vans when in use, removed when not in use and can only be removed by the Patrol.

Cant remember EEing a Fab and as VRStu said would not tell anyway.

If a Patrolman was unable to get in or get the key, most would know of a local auto locksmith but this would have to be paid for and could be pricey.

When I locked the keys in the boot of my MX-5 I called the AA and the patrolman who attended certainly didn't have any kind of reference of that sort either hard copy or computerised. He gave up after about an hour and called a local locksmith out saying there'd be a fee. The locksmith eventually turned up - took the door apart to get the lock barrel out (fortunately I'd opened the car before I locked the keys away...) and cut a new key. Took about four hours altogether - but I didn't get a bill at the end of it!!!:)

Having experienced that I've been very careful not to put the keys down in the boot of the vRS...

isn't there a pull handle to open the boot in the centre console armrest , the MX5s i've worked on have this

Mine doesn't auto lock... as I discovered....

I'd stopped at the last service station before the venue of the MX-5 Owners Club Annual National Rally. Several other MX-5 owners noticed I had a problem, came to investigate, and suggested that too! The remote release was only introduced around 1992 - mine was a 1990...

Sorry if the question has already been asked, but how can the wind close the boot lid ?

Was the car parked in a wind tunnel?

I have just checked and the relevant MX5 info is available to all Patrols (securely) computerised and by phone.

wonder why they dont just use the passive system that the imobiliser chip uses?

after all you dont actually do anything to turn the imobiliser off, and theres no battery in the level 1 or classic skodas.

might have to try climbing into the boot and locking myself in with the keys to see what happens :D

Boot definitely auto-locks if you only open it with the key-fob, and then shut the tailgate. Trained myself to put the keys back in my pocket before loading shopping!:D

vRStu - if you lock the thread, make sure you take the keys out of the boot.
