Hate your ASR? Read on..

"if you break it, both halves are yours!" :D

Haha, that's pretty cool

I found the vRS's TC by far the most dumb and heavy handed of any car I've had with it fitted. For example, in the pretty much identical Ibiza and with remap, I fell out with it far less.

In the spirit of discovery, I popped out the ASR button (all you have to do is press it in and a great big opening appears on the blank off to the side, insert finger and push out blank, then ease out ASR switch).

However, there are 4 wires at the back of the ASR switch (?). The switch is a momentary switch and it doesn;t illuminate at night. Gonna have to do some investigating here......

Have a 22 microfarad capacitor ready to try out....

Any (helpful/constructive) comments would be welcome...

[Edit] looking carefully at the photo tutorial link no.2 above, I see the relevant wires, now to see what polarity and colour coding they have on the furby....

Cheers

If I want mine off I'll just have to remember when I get in. :D Nice idea though.

is this the sort of thing you would have to inform your insurance company about as it changes the dynamic safety features of the car which go toward its insurance group :)

Probably, but the feature is not completely deleted. It then needs to be manually turned on when you need it, as in rain. If I was in the UK, I'd probably not tamper with it tbh, just push the button every time I start up...... The only thing I want modulating my throttle is me, especially with the ARB and LSD in the car....

(Oh BTW - know those so-called "tamper-resistant" gearbox oil drain and filler plugs - I lathed out the center plugs so any M16 splined tool will open them).

Bas "compulsive tamperer":D

it might not be completely disabled but it won't come on unless you turn it on and i know ASR isn't that good at stopping you crash but believe me if your in the process of crashing its too late. the accident i had in my van lasted for about 3 seconds according to the crash investigation bloke and i was watching a Civic Type R crash during a race earlier and from from it first starts to go out of shape to it being stopped on its roof after rolling a couple times and sliding across the grass took about 8 seconds, definitly not enough time for you to realise whats happening, get control of yourself and realise to turn on something like ASR or ESP but by then it will be too late to save it anywho.

i just think that if you want to do something like this then its the sort of thing that you should be telling your insurance company about as if you do have an accident and they find it you wouldn't want them to not payout and you lose money aswell as your pride and joy.

ASR is good for one thing.....

Nearly worn out front tyres in the wet!!!

Two situations where I have heard that ASR might actually be dangerous:

1- If you have an ARB fitted and take a corner a little too fast - without ASR you can power out if it - with it on all you can do is spin...

2- Coming out at a busy roundabout in the wet - you would be busy playing with the ASR rather than making a quick entry into the traffic.

In any case, will try out the mod tonite - with the LSD just fitted, don't think that ASR is going to be useful any more tbh....

good points... whenever I'm going to drive "briskly" the ASR goes off..... was off all the time at the brisky BBQ meet ;)

Interesting view, but how do you think ASR is a safety feature? It's so abrupt and crude that IMO it is more of a danger than a safety gadget.

As said, when it detects wheelspin, it simply cuts power, almost dead. Not at all helpfull. It's not like esp, which can obviously be of great benefit.

I NEVER have it on. My brain controls the wheelspin far quicker and more effectively/ I can't imagine a single scenario where it could potentially save me from crashing. ASR - not my brain.
