water leak at bottom of windscreen

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Looks like the rubber/panel at the bottom of my windscreen on my octavia has perished :(

and one side has lifted leting in this rain. Does anybody know if these parts are easily replaced .

Thanks

:)

Would your car not still be under warranty?

There is a known issue of de-lamination of the windscreen on early cars.

I've seen cars up to 60 plate with this issue myself

The delamination that Stu refers to is indicated by a milky band running along the bottom of the screen.

I posted some pics up of mine a while ago - might be worth checking yours at the same time as you get the rubber sorted.

Thanks for the replies. Posted too quick last night as I should of posted in 'Octavia' and not 'new octavia' . Mine is a T reg 1999. Talking to others suggest that the drains just under the bonnet could be blocked so I'll check tonight.

I'll let you know. Thanks again

I'll move this over for you.

I assume you are referring to the plastic/rubber scuttle panel along the bottom that the wiper arms go through on one side. These are quiet cheap from the dealer and a doddle to fit, just be carefull removing the old ones. I wouldnt be overly concerned about a little gap. You could try heating it with a hair dryer to try and mould the rubber back into shape, just be carefull where you direct the heat.

Yep, sounds more like a water leak near to the pollen filter, generally caused by a build up of leaves. If your in the process of clearing out leaves, it might be worth undoing a couple of screws around the rear of the plastic wheel arch trim (as that is there the water drains to from the area under the scuttle panel - generally some nicely composted leaves can be found there!

Ahh an old Octy... If you have water in the passenger footwell I'd agree with what they said too, the pollen filter and that area fills up with debris.

You can clean out the leaves, put a new seal and filter in and fingers crossed should be all ok.

Thanks All. Thats what it was :) . Had trouble removing the skuttle panel ( passenger side ). I managed to unclip it ok but couldn't maneuver it around the bonnet hinge .

Any tips ?

Any way I could push it up to gain access to the void underneath where I could see leafs etc loads of water(!) but no hole . So using some tweezers I removed what I could see. suddenly, Woosh as as the water drained out through the hole. I was amazed to discover that only a small amount of debris blocked it  .

Did a similar thing on the driver side also.

So thanks again guys.

You just have to flex it around the hinge, but warming the plastic with a hair drier can help to prevent it from breaking. I use a watering can, or hosepipe to push any leaves stuck in the middle down to the bottom and then remove the wheel arch trim to get them out at the bottom.
