pmsl.. i have the iiyama 22" 203DT on my desk.. best monitor ive ever had.. must be you stuart you break everything... scoobs windows monitors....

I have used a CTX Ultra Screen 21inch monitor for the last 5 years (connected to 3 different PCs over that time). It gives a good distortion free image with good colour.

19 and 22 inch CRT monitors are very deep and heavy, your going to need a big desktop for these. What about a 19" TFT monitor, or a 17" one, like the LG one I am using now. Runs at the same res as a 19" CRT (1280x1024) and is pin sharp.

If you want to push the resolution beyond 1280 x 1024 then you'd probably be looking at CRT rather than TFT, as the prices get a bit steep (although I did see a 19" TFT with a higher resolution for about

Have a 17" NEC TFT and 21" Sony CRT, I prefer the TFT for looking at, the CRT for developing on owing tot he 1600+ res and desktop real estate.

When used next to each other as I am now, I am using the CRT for development and TFT for preview testing. CRT is still preferable for colour matching (says I still not configured it after 3 years).

TFT is nice and no desk needed, if your not bound on resolution and colours, then TFT IMHO...two if you want the real estate....so anybody want a 21" CP500 Sony monitor?

The important thing with TFT is that if you view outside the "suggested" res, eg 1024 on a 1280 panel, it can look a little odd, least it used to...

I'd agree with Colin - TFTs are good where space is a premium, but a CRT will always be better for colour matching and graphics.

Couldn't recommend a brand, generally I just go for cheapest as computer stuff does depreciate rapidly and they're usually all made by the same companies anyway. :D

Got some nice second-hand Dell 19" Trinitron monitors actually, pretty cheap and built like brick sh*thouses... ;)

Paul, It must be me, everyone else who has iiyama likes them. Still because Im such an "unlucky" customer tomorrows replacement will be a newer model, we will see. The current one is called a pro 451.

I am budgeting about 450, Size isnt a problem as the desk is 1200X2400

I may be able to get hold of some good deals on Sony TFT monitors. Technically, they're not brand new, but guatanteed (graded stock).

For example, the rather nice 20" SDMX202B retails at a whopping

only silly flat panels... not man's monitors.

Dell monitors are always good :)

Ive got a 17" TFT Dell 1702Fp, its gorgeous, and still gives modern tft panels a run for their money in performance and reaction time.

I also have a 19" CTX crt screen, which was good when i bought it 2 years ago, but the brightness is starting to band a bit and the picture decides its going to be at a slightly different angle every time it comes off standby.

Iiyama are good.. but a friend of mine bought a top spec 19" CRT, and it had a single dead pixel slap bang in the middle of the screen, and they refused to replace it.

TFTs still aint good enough for games tho :D

I've got a knack when it comes to buying TFT monitors. Insist on seeing the one you are about to purchase, but have not yet paid for working. Look closely at the screen for dead or always on pixels, if it has any walk away.

...or if you buy them off the net, you always have the 7 day cooling off period ;)

At home I've got a gorgeous Mitsubishi Diamondtron 17" monitor - the best CRT I've ever used. At work I've got a Dell Latitude with a 15" 1400x1050 screen and that's nice too!

I like the evenness and brightness of the TFT, but the CRT still has the most natural colours (esp. for photo work) and is much faster for games...

I have a Iiyama Vision Master Pro 450, which is a 5 year old 19in flat screen CRT monitor and it is still out classes many monitors on the high street.

If space and money is not a problem, get the latest 22inch Iiyam VM Pro, you won't go wrong.

A D600? That's what I'm using ATM (with the 14.1" 1400x1050). Very good

I have only two problems with it:

1) Occasional refusal to wake up from standby or hibernation

2) It's difficult to go back to using a 800x600 1024x768 on other computers!

Nope, an older C800, but yes, still a nice screen. Some claim that it is 'too small' (the text), but it's just fine for me. I am surprised that the same panel hasn't found its way into desktop TFT monitors - I guess it is because they would be further away than on a laptop and users might have problems with the resolution - but still seems strange. Dell even did a version of my laptop with a 1600x1200 screen. Now THAT'S small!

The only problem I've had with mine is that the battery is fubar'd, and Dell want another 80 quid for a new one. Hmmmm. Ebay here I come...

SWMBO's Dell Inspiron laptop has an amazingly good 15" UXGA UltraSharp screen which delivers pin-sharp 1600 x 1200 resolution. And there are no dead pixels after one year of major use. OTOH my Iiyama Vision Master Pro451 has a screen which changes colour at the corners (internal power problems?) from time to time, and has noticeably washed-out colour after 3 years. My earlier 17" Iiyama also developed display problems. I think Iiyama are excellent when performing well but I find the reliability iffy.

Possibly a minor point but large (19"+) CRT's are incredibly heavy. Make sure your desk (and your back!) can handle the weight.

My 19" CTX has been brilliant (no pun intended!)

Well the replacement from iiyama arrived about 1/2 hour ago, Ive now got a 454 rather than the 451. I know its early days but ferkin brilliant, still fancy a 22" so decide by the end of the month/Tax year !!
