Biodiesel

Featured Replies

Dont know if anyone will be interested in reading 22,000 words, i have already recieved a couple of PM's requesting a copy

But i have put my university dissertation up online if you fancy a read, some of it is probably very fuddy duddy and utter nonsense as it was probably written at 5am the morning before the hand in after 2 weeks of 4 hours sleep a night.

Just thought someone might need something to send them to sleep :P

Very interesting.I have just started running my 1999 Octavia Tdi on Biodiesel as it is 82p per litre.I have not noticed any changes in mpg or performance. Thanks for posting the information

Where can you buy Biodiesel for 82p a litre? :D

Chris

Some guy in Leicester (J K Fuels) quoted me 82p a litre for 25 litrer drums, 100% bio. This was back in December. Wasn't brave enough to take him up on it, although a switch would save me about

Guess you could blend it such that it is 5% bio-derv.

That way you could put 5L in a 50L tank and the rest normal derv.

Easy enough to keep the 5L in the boot too.

 Top work Alex. An interesting read.

I'd love to start using Biodiesel in the Fabia, but when I was looking into it last year I couldn't get any for less than

No i didn't manufacture my own! I used a supplier in halifax that manufactures theirs from recycled oil from a crisp factory.

Its easy enough to use in a blend though.. you literally pour whatever bio into your normal diesel.

You will need to change the filters though, i ran one batch of 5% blend through my test engine and it released all sorts from the filter and fuel lines and clogged the injectors.

Isnt it bye bye warranty if you use Bio Diesel??

It's permissible in a 5% blend with mineral diesel :D

Chris

IIRC all derv is now 5% in france from the pump.

  • 1 month later...

All VW group TDI's warranties cover upto a 5% blend as long as the fuel conforms to EN14214.

Once I've run my fabia in, I plan to run in on a 5% blend. When do I need to change the fuel filter? isit immediately before I tank up with Biodiesel?

Not all VW diesels can be run on biodiesel.

IIRC the PD170 says no bio diesel on the filler cap.

  • 3 months later...

Very interesting. Should have had it proof read, though.

My Leon 2.0 TDI 140 says no Biodiesel on the inside of the fuel filler flap too.

If you have a diesel particle filter its a no no

Had a quick scan, the amin question in my view is not if biofuel works but if it can be sustainable. I understand there would be a large jump in food prices to produce it in the UK and large scale deforestation is taking place in developing countries.

Chances are most of us have used 5% blend without knowing it.

Large quantities of UK diesel is E5 (5% blend) already. Tesco diesel certainly is, and their petrol is 5% bio too.

Can't remember where, but for about
