Ok Smokey

Featured Replies

My fab VR/s has a mere 300 miles on the clock but have noticed that it is quite smokey in comparison to my old Polo Sport 1.9 tdi.

Do I need to worry or put this down to it being new and still bedding in. I'm going to change the Oil and filter at 1000 miles then increase the RPM, currently I'm restricting myself to no more than 3000rpm, which is more than enough for brisk performance.

Anyone else had this or do I just sit with it and wait for the engine to fully run in before I call the dealership?

Other than that the car is bloody fantastic, can't stop smiling.

Cheers

I feel that our Fabia vRS is quite smokey, we now have 900 miles on the clock (just like you not taken over 3k RPM) and it does make a fair bit of black smoke... but I'm not overly worried to be honest.

Just keeping a close eye on the engine oil level as some have reported heavy consumption during the early days.

Another 100miles and can think about winding the revs up a little :D

All PD diesels are bit more smokey than the older injection pump type diesels its nowt to worry about.

Try one thats been remapped for smog mode, unless you have a Milltek sports cat like mine ;)

Smoke? What smoke?

Oh, that fog that follows me everywhere! :D Thats normal.

 But doesn't the Fabia Vrs come factory-filled with Longlife oil with a working life of up to 30000 miles in the same engine in the Octavia and Superb? Have confidence in the oil since you are going to be changing it at 10000 miles/1 year anyway on the Fabia's fixed servicing regime.

Denis is right, you dont need to change the oil. Well you could but it would be overkill. You really dont need to with modern diesel or petrol engines.

I found that my car smokes alot less after its 10k service. and besides.. is it a bad thing to let people know theve just been had by a oilburner :D

Never seen my car emit any significant smoke, unchipped and chipped. :D I'll chalk that up as one small plus side for the pd100 vS vRS Fabia argument... :P

My last engine was a PD but the 100, this is why I'm slightly concerened.

Maybe the exhaust is contributing to the smog, how much would you say the miltek'd be?

I too changed the oil at 1000 miles on my last Furby, but as others have said its overkill and not necessary. The oil looked almost new still when it came out! :o

Maybe the RS seems a bit smokey as you're pootling around whilst running. I find that building the revs up now and again (obviously after running in) helps stop sooty deposit build ups in the exhaust and stops the blackout effect whe you boot it! :D

If its doing it after its run in, then take it for a check up.

Matt - changing your oil didn't really mean diddly squat compared to the smoke that the bloomin' tuning box you fitted contributed...:D

I'm wondering how much smoke mine will emit after Saturday - gonna give it some beans after and see what I see.
