Recommmend a Telly Thread

Sorry to resurect an old thread, but thought I should update. After some extensive internet research and buying this months copy of What Hi Fi Sound + Vision, I am now the proud owner of a Samsung LE46F86BDX LCD.

This is a 46" Full HD monster with 25000:1 contrast ratio and 100Hz processing. I've had the obligatory Casino Royale BluRay on this afternoon and it's awesome. Normal telly will never be the same. I spent ages looking at LCD Vs plasma in the shops for months and this is a commendable TV.

I'm gonna have to pay extra for Sky HD now.... Doh!

welcome to the world of hd,life is good:D

we got a sony bravia 48" earlier in the year and xbox360 gaming has never been the same since:rofl:

get a full bose surround package and the expierience is complete:thumbup:

HD is awesome I must admit. I already have a Yamaha 6.1 amp with Mission M70 speaker package which really complements the TV. I probably need to upgrade my amp now though as it only has one optical input, currently being used by the PS3 for BluRay goodness. I'd like to connect the Sky+ to the amp for Dolby Digital sounds, or to put the icing on the cake, I'd like an amp which does HDMI switching for true digital lushness.

Argh. I wish you hadn't resurrected this thread!

I've decided to get my old man a bluray player for crimbo and can't decide between the cheap BDP-S300 and a 40GB PS3 (both are the same price).

I don't need a new telly, but they have a special offer at work for a 40" W3000 + PS3 for around a grand and that does sound awfully tempting, and for the odd bit of mid-afternoon gaming, it's more practical than firing up the projector. I get to keep the TV and give my dad the PS3.

Decisions, decisions. December ain't gonna be a cheap month (never is!):D

Will your dad get the best out of the PS3? Nice pressie for your dad though. I looked at the W series Sony LCD and the X series was so much better, I think things have moved on a lot since the W series. If you're gonna invest in a flat pannel then you may as well get one which will keep up for the time being.

The new V series looks awesome.

we spent time looking and pioneer full HD plasma are unbeatable quality wise but in the end we were too tight to buy one. the 50" was

Pioneer Kuro plasma screens get really good reviews but they are soooo expensive. I'm pretty happy with the Samsung TBH.

now that im starting to download the 720p size tv-eps im seeing the benifit of HD more and more, but because the only thing i watch on telly is TopGear.. might as well stick with a decent PC screen until i move house

The offer is on the new V series. And I already have a PS3 and if I could get a blu-ray player (only) that's really slow loading java discs or get a PS3 that's a lot faster, has the ability to play games / folding / media centre, etc at the same price, what would you go for? ;) Even if he doesn't use the games bit, I'll just set up folding so it's crunching when he's not watching a film :D (and I already have a PS3 :o)

bah, you got the old one then :D

the old ones do look bloody good but the newer screens that are proper 1080 and have the super colour thingy looked absolutely amazing.

I`ve had a new Toshiba 42" full HD 1080p jobby delivered yesterday(42X3030D) very happy indeed with it, 6000:1 contrast ratio. Had a 32" Tosh LCD before it, and the difference is amazing, even more so after a few hours fiddling with the picture settings.
