Fat lady sings to Rossi

Featured Replies

Ms E

I gather you mean the 'disappointed' thread, however I don't get the mid life crisis bit?

Please explain.

Lance

Well to be honest I don’t think either of us know exactly when your mid life point was/is/will be:P :D

I shall return to this debate and some banter late on 3rd June after Rossi gets defeated on home turf.

Until then............Ciao

Thats a Horse Power track ain't it !!!!!, Einstein wouldn't need to work that Rossi's chances are slim for that one now would he !!!!!

So Hayden & Petrosa were fairly dominante Last year...nowhere this year. Hadyen was there abouts the year before and Sete the year before that. I wonder where Stoner will be next year, I'm not saying he'll be nowhere but it ain't easy being top dog....just look at the difference in times between the top 10 in qualifying, theres feck all in it.

Its like the Schmey days, its a pity people wouldn't just enjoy watching the talent for which they have.

I can only speak for myself, however as my previous posts confirm, both in this and previous similar threads, I'm fully aware of how talented all these riders are, especially Rossi, however as with music, boxing, football etc etc, we all have our favourites and surely room for a bit of banter.

On a similar note as yours, wouldn't it be nice for some of the Rossi fan club to recognise the talents and skill of Stoner & co rather than to put their wins down to Rossi's tyres, the circuit, the bike, the weather, in fact anything other than they beat Rossi fair & square.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter does it? It's the result what counts.

I went to Mugello a few years back (Rossi won) and apart from the one straight I seem to remember it being a very technical track, thus ideal for Rossi.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to have a go at you, like the WRC I love to see others do the business...its helps the sport. Take the 2 french riders who briefly led at the weekend, I was jumping for joy (Olivier Jacque & Sylvain Guintoli). I was merely pointing out that Rossi's day ain't done yet. It annoys me a bit sometime, especially with the like of Schmey that his talent was a negative thing in the end.....just because the others were just not good enough (not aimed at you ;) ).

This year theres a major difference in top end Speed between the Yamaha & the Ducati which in fairness makes it a lot harder to beat especially on certain tracks. So the tires will play a major part due to the additional pressure the tires will be put under through the twisty stuff, in order to make up the time. Also with the different tire rules it makes the job even harder.

I suppose just look at the Qualifying times, better than last year. Fair enough the Yamaha is making the time in the corners but that Ducati is a serious machine when you consider it ain't as nimble in the corners but is making it up on the Staights....even compared to last years bigger bikes.

Btw I've no probs with banter, but there's nobody I could say I really dislike in MotoGp...well apart from the grumpy little feck Pedrosa :D:thumbup:

I was thinking Monza after watching the WSBK's a few weeks ago...oops Anyway IIRC When the Eurosport Commentators spoke about the Italian race they reakoned it would suit the Ducati. Just checked out the website, that straight looks damn long.

Fair comment/s Gaff and likewise, nothing personal.

Must say, and it's probably clear by now, that I'm no fan of Rossi but have the utmost respect and recognition for how skillful a rider he is. Whilst I don't thiink it's all over for him just yet, I do think his days are numbered as far as being a totally dominant rider.

What really used to annoy me with him was that he was very dis-respectful to some of the other riders in the way he used to mind f#ck them and then mock them during the post race celebrations and press conferences. I found it very arrogant and unnecessary at that level. If your into boxing, it's a bit like Prince Naseem Hamed was to his opponents, until Barrera taught him a lesson.

Anyway, enough rambling, roll on 3rd June.

Btw bearing the below in mind

I'm fully aware of how talented all these riders are, especially Rossi,

do ya really think one of these didn't play a major part

Gaff

Rossi's tyres, the circuit, the bike, the weather, in fact anything other than they beat Rossi fair & square.

Honestly !!!!

And your damn right, Stoner is seriously talented, his number of results this year are no fluke and it was no flash in the pan ;)

If you don't like him I can understand the annoyance factor but from Listening to the Eurosport Commentary I have started to see that it's his mind games, look at Sete, I think it really messed with his head so much. As the guys would say Rossi is nice to ya...if your not a threat but once you do the race becomes as much off the track as on it.

Oh yes....he certainly messed with Sete's head.

Yes I do think he is having problems and with a better package he'd be more competitive, but I still believe he won't have all his own way like he did before.

Also, it may need to be considered that his feedback to the team is adding to the problems as is his tyre management during the race.

Mine from an earlier post -

"Agree that quality doesn't fade away, however it does shine brighter if those around you are less capable. He's starting to dim a little now, not because he's any less talented, but because he's now up against better competition."

Re-Reading this its very true, although in the Doctors case I think he'll always be the North star

I think the reason I feel a little strongly about this is going back to the Senna days (I was young), but I must say at the time I hated him. I dunno if it was because the impression he gave, which was probably because he was quiet or because he was so competitive, but it was only when he was gone I really appreciated the talent....and suppose everytime I hear people give out about a great talent like that I think back to what I thought of Senna and the whole appreciation of their abilities.

Did any of you watch the 2007 North West 200 over the weekend...........excellent racing, but very very scary.

Bodes well for the TT though.

Foz, ditto the reasoned debate.

Yep, road racing, cant get a bigger buzz. Loved it.

The TT starts next week (I think)...................keep an eye out for it on men & motors.

Real shame that Yer Maun, Hizzy, DJ etc aren't here to celebrate the 100 years TT.

Joey dying is a JFK moment for me, what a genuinely gifted, humble and modest bloke he was, although IMHO Hizzy was the top man of the TT.

TT Fortnight 26th May to 8th June.

I totally agree with you about Hizzy & the TT he was the top man for me !

I loved the era of Joey, McCallen, Hizzy, Foggy etc at the TT ...best racing ever !

Yep, the TT, the best racing ever!!!

I went over to the TT every year from 1986 through to 1996 and never ceased to be amazed at the racing.

Big memories for me, Joey every year, Robert Dunlops off at Ballaugh, Hizzy on the Norton, but most of all when Honda gave Hizzy & Foggy the RVF's to ensure yamaha were kept in there place.........they absolutely wiped the floor with the opposition.

Must go back one year!!!

I always got the impression that Hizzy would go as fast as he needed to win, but could raise his game if he needed to.

Those boys are NUTS :) any off on one of thoses and theres a serious chance of it being game over :( .

Why do you reckon we get so attached to people like Joey Dunlop? Bought a tear to my eye hearing he had died. I am normally a hard *******d, but it still chokes me up that he is gone.

Could it be that as many of us have participated in "unofficial" road racing over the years, we appreciate the total skill and bravery that these road racers exhibit? The man was a hero and a legend and is still sorely missed.

I think with Joey is was because he was truly 'just himself'. No matter how much fame & fortune he never changed. Never, and I mean never was he cocky, arrogant, smug, abusive nor insulting to his competitors.

I have the video of his life story, sadly including his death and funeral. If you haven't seen the funeral you'd be amazed at the scale it was on.

The man's attitude was part of it I am sure. Don't think I could bring myself to watch the video.

You are so right. It's probably the best factual motorsport video ever (and I'm including various on-vehicle videos and "The Road Racers" when saying that).
