can someone work something out for me please?

Featured Replies

hello tech heads...

could someone work out some power to weight ratio's for me please?

Fiat grande punto remapped to 170 bhp....

standard (latest version) golf GTI.....

are they similar? or does the gof still have more power?

thanks in advance....

who have you been upsetting now dave

ok here goes,

punto kw = 1205 kg and 170 bhp = 141 bhp/1000kg

golf kw = 1336 kg and 200 bhp = 149.7 bhp/1000kg

The golf as it

Of course that doesn't take into account of driver

Damn you got there before i had time to work it out

The Golf has more, as Postmanpat says, even more if it happens to be the limited edition one with 226BHP. :)

Thanks Andy :) I posted on the fiat forum that my remapped punto matched a golf GTI between 40-70 mph.... someone started taking the **** (in a completely uneducated way, guy drives a 1.2 never had anything fast, let alone played with remaps, and I want the fugured to back up my claims.....)

quite close then... his 'extra' passenger could have made up for the few more bhp/ton he has.......

anyone know what the standard torque figures for the golf GTI are?

In gear acceleration will be mostly down to gear ratios and torque mainly.

The GTI is 207 lbs.ft / 280 Nm (@1800 rpm) by the way. Also depends on where the torque peaks are as well.

280nm apparently. was gonna say, the torque to weight figures throw up an entirely different picture.......

could you work that out for me ?! (sharky thanks the maths boffins...)

I'm currently running 262lb/ft of torque..... against the golfs 207....

you may well be making 55lbft more than the golf but he is making it from 1800rpm solid through to 5000rpm so a very broad power band :)

a modern petrol turbo engine can pull for nearly its entire rev range where a diesel will die off a lot more quickly, its the gear changes that normally do the damage in sprints between the two.

As I said. Steer well clear of the Fiat Forum....

lol..... do you know of any other fiat/punto forums snoopie? I can't find anywhere with the same atmosphere/technical knowledge/help ect, that we have here...... some are way worse than the fiat forum!

Don't forget the standard golf GTI (200PS) can have the DSG box which shaves some time off gear changes.

extra 75 kg passenger in golf would give him 141.74 to your 141.07 bhp, how accurate is your bhp, rolling road or guestimate?

bhp, is quoted by angel tuning...(I haven't been on a RR) only 5,000 miles, it may run in a bit more yet....

angel have run the engine up to 190 on a map alone, but they advise against going higher than 170 as it kills the clutch...

Stick to Briskoda. We probably know more about Fiat's than the Fiat forum...

bhp doesn't damage anything, torque does :)

the standard transmisson on a 650 mini could take 10,000bhp as long as the engine could rev to 500,000rpm :D

ok here goes,

punto kw = 1205 kg and 170 bhp = 141 bhp/1000kg

It doesn't make much difference but the Golf is 197bhp so 147.5bhp/1000kg. Also as the punto in question hasn't been RR'd it needs to be making 8bhp more than estimated for it to be dead even. The figures are so close that number and weight of occupants, stuff in the boot and how full the tank is could make all the difference.

Are you sure the gearbox internals would be ok spinning that fast?

I agree though that torque is the usual killer but increasing the revs can also do damage.
