Ours was a flatbed which could have been significantly less aerodynamic than a conventional van

yeah, astra vans just spin the moment you touch the brakes

i had one for a couple weeks as a loan van and i thrashed the *** off it and never once did it feel dodgy in any way. your wife had to have steered and braked excessivly to get it to slide sideways into the central reservation. thats what happened to me in the transit when a deer decided to cross without looking.
