Just goes to show when driven slowly (50mph) for a prolonged period the vRS can give brilliant economy. Trouble is, as soon as the road cleared I was belting along and ruined any chance of maintaining those economy figures. Doh!

Right your just making me jelous now.

I got excited that I crept up to 28mpg on a smallish run yesterday down the A roads.

I saw 60mpg in mine quite frequently, but was always negated by kicking its head in and getting 25mpg!!!

i got up to 65 mpg on saturday night on the m25 which i thought was pretty good

came back from sheffield once and got 71 average. that was crawling all the way home and coasting (ooops) down most hills.

Had some fun with an m3 on the way home today and got 29mpg average

I am useless at driving steady, everyday i try to see what the best economy is for a trip back from sheffield but always end up forgeting half way home and start belting it again.

71! Nice.

It made me wonder what it would be like if they produced a PD without a turbo.

Like the SDi but with PD injectors. Unless the SDi is already like that?

That must be super duper economy. :P

I think the later sdi units in the golf and caddy are PD, but i know a while back we had a 2004 polo sdi in and that had the vp37 bosch fuel system in.

they are good fuel but pants if you want to actually get places if you know what i mean (no offence sdi owners)

the 1.4tdi is a comprimise i think, if ur after economy the lupo 1.4tdi is the best vag car they are ace on fuel!

_________

i have had mine up to 67mpg but rember the computer is not spot on and can be quite inacruate

When I get in the motor after the missus has been driving it regularly has about 60-65mpg on the clock, she drives like an old git though.....

I normally get around 54 showing, unless I'm in a real hurry and I have seen it as low as 43mpg...

I've got the SDi and get between 55 & 65mpg depending on how heavy my foot is that day :D (and i don't tend to hang about)

acceleration may not be brilliant but it will cruise @ 95 (on the clock which does over read the speed) ;) (oops didn't mean to go that fast at the time:eek:) behind a golf TDi

still loads of fun when you get BMW's & mercs pulling over to get out of your way though!!

I just managed 59mpg average between Whitby and York this afternoon. All thanks to a Merc SL55 AMG in front tootling along past Fylingdales!

I once got an incredible 82.3mpg  . According to the trip computer i've averaged 62.3mpg since i've had it. And yet measuring brim-to-brim i've never got over 52mpg.

I've always thought me trip computer was just as optimistic as everyone else's...........anyone else vrs reading 30% over the real figure?

I saw 58mpg average from Killin in Scotland to the start of the motorway- that was 55-60mph on a lightish throttle. Dropped that down to 48ish on the motorway though.

My trip meter is fairly accurate...

Mine's about 2mpg out.....as in too high. Not bad really but I still prefer the brim method.

Ive only had my Fab VRS for 4 days. My last car didnt tell you the MPG, so I have spent most of the time ARS'in around with it.

Dont know how accurate it is yet, but Ive got about 54mpg average so far. The TDI is great, Ive had about 188Mpg when I ease off after accelerating, but the average comes back down when it goes down to 9mpg when the old foot just gets to heavy to hold up

Great fun to watch. Might try looking at the road sometimes though:D

I can get (on the computer) a max of 55mpg out of my 1.4 16v:D

But over a tank and worked out properly my max is 42 and my average is 38. Still not bad for a humble 5 gear petrol :)

my wifes fabia vrs always quotes around 50-55mpg at the end of the tank however when I work out the maths it always 5-8mpg lower than what the fabia reads, I have a PD130 octi and that only ever reads 2mpg over the maths

Highest I ever saw, was 67MPG on average. And that was with a load of modications.

During a 35 mile journey in traffic

I then ruined this by going on the motorway!

Whoah! Nice....... :D

Makes my effort look a little mediocre. The longer the road too, the better the mpg. If I'd have been sat there for a few more miles I would've been up in the 70/ 80's I reckon.

Thats the most i've had it up to, before that it was 72 or something. I prob could of got more but i was sitting at a roundabout then and took the picture, it went down after that and then i was in the city centre, its like you said, you need a clear long road thats something like a 50mph speed limit

I don't even bother looking at the trip computer, no matter if it reads 50mpg oor 60 mpg I always get 44-46mpg

Woo, just got 55mpg driving at 50mph on a 20min drive :D

I dropped the H.C. off at work last Sunday, and got 65.5 on the way there, driving like the old man I am.

On the way back I had my 17 year old moment, and got it down to 33 on average.
