BP Ultimate diesel

Featured Replies

I run a 2002 1.9 Tdi and always use BP Ultimate and Millers Sport 4.I do find that I get better performance and economy improvement of 5mpg.Another reason for using it is that I recently read in a motoring article that todays basic diesel fuel with low sulphur content has less lubricating properties and VW group fuel pumps are failing as a result at about 70K.The advice was to use Millers as it gives added lubrication.

For the best bang, try Shell V-Power Diesel and Millers Sport 4. My car is absolutely flying on it.........

im running bp ultimate too ive been running it since i bought the car not so much for the performance gains but to keep the engine clean

Thumb up for Shell V-Power diesel (although still difficult to get and not exactly rolling out as quickly as you would think). Made an effort to get a couple of tanks put through. Performance? Don't cane it enough to be able to compare  but certainly noticed a 3-4 mpg improvement :D .

You need to use at least three tank fulls of it to notice any real difference. I used it whilst I was on a nine week course during which I did about 1800 miles and I did notice a big difference, particularly the extra zip and less noise from cold. There wasn't much of a difference in price where I filled up, at least not the 10p a litre extra near where I live.

The only problem I found was as I did not continue to use it and put normal diesel in the car took a while to adjust and it didn't run as well. It was a bit like the cold turkey effect.

Could use ordinary BP diesel and a shot of Millers Sport 4?

Inputs from you and many of the other's have convinced me to persist with the Ultimate for a another 2 or 3 fill-ups, despite the consequential damage to my bank balance!

Thanks, all.

Would these make a difference on a SDI?

Every little helps!

On the SDI I would use shell extra as it is the same price as regular derv, or throw in some millers power 4.

Personally I would save your money however and not spend any extra for the fuels that are about 10p more.

I have run and driven several vehicles on the premium diesel, and again I can't say I have noticed any difference, apart from cost. I remember reading in one of the car magazines of long term tests on the premium fuels and this came to the conclusion that it did make a difference to the total MPG of a car.

Personally I always put a shot of Redex in every 3-4 tanks of diesel and have noticed this seems to help and has increased MPG on my Land Rover Defender. Still waiting to see if it makes a difference to the Skoda.
