electric roof

Featured Replies

hello everyone

I have just ordered a new L&K 2 TDI and couldnt decide whether to have a sunshine roof and decided not too have one due to wind noise. Would anyone with a sunshine roof confirm whether you get wind buffeting with them open, and would the roof being open accentuate the diesel noise? Never had a diesel before, but always had a sunshine roof.

I had a Mk1 Octavia Elegance TDI with an electric sunroof and the diesel engine noise was never an issue. The biggest problem was indeed the roaring noise from the open roof. There wasn't so much a problem with buffeting as it had a small pop up deflector which reduced it.

The overall wind noise was unacceptable to me and the roof was hardly ever used.

Welcome to Briskoda by the way, you will love your L&K when it arrives

Ah, but the Octavia II sunroof is glass, so you do get a nice extra brightness to the cabin (was used to a panoramic roof on my last car and it is definitely a nice feature)

The MkI Octavia roof was also glass but had a sunscreen that could be pulled across. I Would think the MkII sunrrof is exactly the same.

It's horses for courses with sunroofs, you either love 'em or hate 'em.

it doesnt buffet as such but as dstev says the wind noise will put you off and youll end up closing it at speed and sing the climatronic instead. The lift option works better at speed and i somethimes leave that open as it doesnt give as much noise. The only problem is I always forget to close it and it sets the alarm off!

it does have a sunscreen which is handy plus the ezxtra light is handy too. Never heard the engine through it when its open.

I've got one in my current Superb, and find that we hardly ever use it.

When it is used, then there is no problem with engine noise. You do get some wind roar, but that's to be expected.

Personally, I've never really seen the point in a sunroof if you have air-con or climate control. My daughter likes it, as she finds it fun to stand up and poke her head out when the car is parked. Not a good enough reason to spend

Thanks for those comments guys that has made my mind up I will leave the order as it is without the sunshine roof.

Thanks for the welcome dstev that was nice, and I hope you are right about the L&K, I am a bit apprehensive about parting with my Volvo Cross Country which has been fabulous.

Bagpuss, lots of people say they cant see the point in a sunshine roof when you have air con and certainly for motorways the air con is a must and you shut the sunshine roof, but the first opening roof I had was on an Alfa Romeo and it was a sliding fabric thing that was fabulous. That roof was opened on every journey I made, perhaps to hear the sound of the exhaust when you dont need a radio, but there is a certain magic in an open roof, as long as you dont get the wind judder that you get with modern aerodynamic cars.

Well if you ever change your mind about the sunroof I have a nice angle grinder in my shed

I used my Mk1 sunroof once IIRC.

With climate control, I never needed it. I use the window for fresh air.

The only time I use mine is when I drop all the windows and sunroof to let the hot air out of the car in the summer...... all the rest of the time the climate does an excellent job of keeping the car temperature spot on :D

The sunroof does help lighten the cabin though.......
