Last weeks AutoExpress had the top 100 cars for MPG and in the sports car sector the BMW 335d was 2nd only to the Mini Cooper.

IIRC it averaged 33ish

But then later in the mag their long term test commented that their new 535d Touring had just covered 2000 miles in 1 month (its fdirst month) and was being used as a load lughger yet so far was returning over 35mpg....

Hello. I know nothing but this site on a BBC TV prog might give you an idea of the current value of your car for an instant sale (so expecting to be lower than a private sale).Sell Your Used Car Online For Free - We Buy Any Car

As said though, if you're selling your car at a discount and probs paying top dollar for a replacement (with concomitant likely extra repair bills) is it not possible to refinance to keep the devil you know? Just a thought, but do you have a right to sell the car under the finance agreement you have?

Glad you've got your flat though  Blinking hard work getting a mattress in a car :D

I do not count the:gay:mini cooper as a sports car:mad:

I checked up on teh legality of selling the car and I need to tell the person buying what the deal is, they then basically pay off my finace and give me the rest if there is any and then the car gets signed over, as soon as finance is cleared i can sign the car over to them, guess it will involve a bit of trust with buyer. Thinking about refiance, gotta chat to the bank, they were being funny a few months ago as had gone over my overdraft limit for like 1 day before pay day and they said pop back ina few months!

Cant wait to test drive a load of these cars suggested, i find some garages dun seem to want my trade, was wondering around one the other week the bloke told me a car had no history and went back t read his paper and not even try and sell me a car, and i was genuinely interested in it too! No wonder his forecourt was full of cars and seemed to be the same ones there too a week later!

You may find it very difficult to sell your car with finance outstanding on it. You may even find that you owe more on the car than it's worth.... unless you put a hefty deposit down on it.

Ah yes the real impact of depreciation.

Surely you know how much finance is remaining on the car and what fees they will charge you to close the loan early.

Check in parkers/glasses guide for a ball park value for your car and then think hard is the cost of the early redemption fees really worth the upgrade??

Why not keep your car until you have cleared the finance on it? Then keep the monthly loan repayment going into a savings account then when you do really need a new car you will have clearly your car as part x owned outright + some deposit towards the new car so the new loan will be much less.

Not heard one good thing about GTI peugots since the 205.Don't know how they lost the plot but it wouldn't be on my list.

If you are trying to be sensible now you are concentrating on the flat I would forget all about big old beemers and the like.Octavia vRS's are group 16 insurance so not cheap

Should be loads of great (newish/cheap insurance/fun) cars out there for that money.

Our neighbour has just bought a black toyota aygo.Little thing looks dead smart and costs pennies to run.

Don't jump out of the frying pan as they say!

What you may have to do (and this is what I did so I could sell my Bora) is to take a bank loan out to pay of the finance. This will mean you can sell the car to anyone and it will be HP clear. The only problem you may have is that you might not be-able to get an unsecured loan if your all ready seen to be struggling to keep out of your overdraft ?

The Pug 306 GTI-6 is a brillient car ditto the 106 GTI & 106GTI Ralley.

Oh another suggestion is the Citroen C3 1.4HDI this car is really good super frugal and high milage versions start from

.

Accepted.I was just thinking of the 2 series.205 great.206/7 not so great.

206 is not so good.

The 207 GTi is a little soft but within 18months Pug (according to Autoexpress yesterday) will be releasing a 260bhp 1.6ltr turbo version.

And looking round now Renault may have to think again with the Ren Sport 2.0ltr 192 its very fuel heavy and in the real world not as quick as smaller capacity turbos - unless you take it over 5.5k all the time which is very tiresome.

260bhp from a 1.6ltr = MASSSOOOV turbo. It'll take for ever to wind up.

no it wont its twin turbo..

It will be variable vane turbo as in the likes of all modern turbo cars.

Lag like your are suggesting is a gone era - have you driven any new Petrol turbo cars? Some use variable valve timing in reverse (20VTurbo Fiat does this 10 years ago) to nearly eliminate lag now the variable vane turbos have removed that work around.

I wonder how much longer the 335d & 535D will need twin turbo one small one big.

I thought the only petrol car to use variable vane technology was the 911 turbo? I think exhaust temperatures in petrol cars are much higher than in diesel cars which adversely affects the delicate, movable vanes of the turbo? Could well be wrong though.......

Chris

no its twin turbo.

Well its 18months away and still in very early prototype stage - unless you have insider knowledge this is purely hear say (likewise my suggestion).

hmm I need to chack that out. Clearly all/nealr all TDi's use variable vane turbos however do all the latest petrols??

Either way a 1.6ltr std with 260bhp which will do 200k miles is a fantastic position for car buyers to be in - I guess plenty willl just chip it thus reducing its life.... shame.

hearsay.. no i would say your suggestion is totally without foundation. VV Turbos have fundamental issues in petrol cars 997 was the first to use them. Not viable for the lower end of the market yet.

Insider knowledge. Could be. I worked for them, I drive a twin turbo peugeot, one of my closest friends has already seen/driven the 207 twin turbo - its not 18mths away will be here quicker... Dont forget this engine will find its way into 308/407/citroen mini /1/3/5 series also with engine downsizing. They are all at it.. MB will be doing a 2.2 bi turbo diesel S class in the future...

Im just saying that in yesterdays Autoexpress they stated that the bigger Hot GTI would be 18 months away - I know nothing bar that.

diesels have been using variable vane tech for ages... way before any petrol car did, its petrol that has 'just' started to use the same tech, my GP has a VV tech turbo....

That was why I pointed out that even though it is an excellent technology, it has problems when applied to petrol engines :P My manky old Ford also has a variable vane turbo, as did my manky old Skoda ;)
