I now own a vRS, but...(this is funny!)

So got up this morning and picked up my vRS, 09/04 with 19k on the clock. Garage put new discs on all round, two new front tyres, new alloy and even got the cam belt changed and a full service.

Gave the guy the cheque and fell into them lovely seats, popped a Pearl Jam cd into the player and drove :)

Went onto a bypass, give it some, and then some more but when I hit 80 the steering wheel started to wobble like the tyres were not balanced????

Took it straight back and he took the tyres off and duly balanced them again. Yet again the same problem so he takes off the tyres on the front and puts them on the back. This time the ride is great and ring and tell him everything is fine.:thumbup:

So with my new pride and joy I decided to show it off to my brother. 5 miles away and I turn into his road when a horrible whirring noise is coming from the front. It gets worse and worse, looses power. So pull up at my bro's house and ring him again.

He said he will come straight away and he pulls up 20mins later in my old car:rofl:

He pops the bonnet gives it some on the throttle and says "the turbo is fooked".:eek:

By now you think this is where the story ends, but oh no it gets funnier.

He then states he will drive it back to the garage and will get a new turbo fitted by Tuesday, says he is really sorry and if I wanted I could have the cash back and my car.

I thought it would be best if he is gonna drive it back that I would follow him just incase it did break down again to which he agreed.

1/2 mile from my bro's house a whole load of smoke pops out of the exhaust and the car stops. He tries to get it to start but no joy.

So he says he will get the landrover from his garage to tow it back. I said I would drive him there to pick it up.

We get to his garage and just about to turn into it when he says "Ive left the keys in my overalls which are in the boot of your car, I took em off so I don't get your car dirty". :rofl::D I swear to god I pi$$ed myself.

He then asks if I could drive him home and then he would get his spare keys.

Drove him home and he could not find them:rofl:

By this time I had to pick my wife up from the supermarket so just left him there to sort it out.

The wife's face was a picture when I picked her up:P

So that is my new vRS...I know I should be as mad as hell but hey, life is too short and it was rather funny plus the guy has not tried to fob me off or get out of it in any way and has offered to give me my money back.

So would you still buy it or would you take him up on the offer of getting your money back???????

hmm if i was you i would get your money back and then run to a church,get on your knee's and praise the Lord for giving you the signs !!!!

Difficult one, as the prevoius owner passed the vehicle on because of ongoing problems, can you get their details from log book and contact them? Or will you be getting a car with loads of new parts fitted and so a bargain?

Me too.

There are two ways of looking at it, things go wrong, they fix it, new stuff added at no extra cost or you bought a shed.....

Personally, I would reject the car and buy another one. The problem you've had could be the cause of an underlying problem which you will have little remedy for if it happens again.

A cynical point of view, but where there are 1,000s of pounds involved, you need to be. I admire your ability to laugh at it, but I can honestly say that i would not be amused.

Could you explain what the underlying problem could be?

Sorry but I am no good with mechanics, I am still looking for a left handed screwdriver:rolleyes:

I too am no good with mechanics, so I can't really give you a detailed answer, but personally i wouldn't take the risk on it. After it gets fixed it may turn out to be the most reliable car you've ever owned - who knows?

However, first impressions count and your fist impression of that car can't be good.

I thought if the turbo went you weren't suppose to drive the car as bit from the turbo could be thrown back into the engine and the whole thing does a kinda big bang thing!!!!

I agree with all of the above and ultimately you're going to have to decide which way to jump. There are plenty of vRS's out there though so don't feel compelled to buy this one. I'm also impressed he managed to diagnose a "fooked turbo" just by revving the engine - I'd be checking the boost pipes to see if any had come off or split as this is a far more common problem...

Also, I'm very cynical and would suspect that the cambelt wasn't changed cos the majority of customers are just going to assume the work was carried out. Might just be me though :o

yeah i would get your money back and run,im a mechanic,the fact he drove it knowing the turbo was away is a no no,the load of smoke u saw out the back could possibly be the engine self destructing,sounds like it started running on its own oil.if the turbos gone at 19k its had a hard life.

But the cambelt issue is not an issue, yesterday I called without invite and they were putting a new one on my car as I called, so, I cannot fault them.

If there is an underlying problem which hasn't been found yet, then you wouldn't want it to show its ugly head on the 91st day ;)

Is the garage a Skoda one or an independant? Not wanting a name, just curious :)

If the turbo has gone pop, and the discs, need changing all around, I would say it has had a hard life.

Xavier...it's an independant dealer.

Aaron...the discs that were on had wear on them and would have passed an MOT this year and next, I asked for new discs as I wanted to get as much as I could for the deal.

One advanage of buying from a Skoda dealer as opposed to independent is their 30 day / 1000 mile exchange warranty - gives you chnace to get a feel for the car and whether it has had a hard time in the past.

I wonder if your chap would offer you something like this? Or hold open his offer of a refund for another cpl of weeks maybe?

Edit - just wondered what paper work is there with the car in terms of service history etc / HPI checks etc? Anything to help confirm the mileage is genuine?

I have done a HPI check and there are no problems with it.

if the reg is pa04tkv walk away that is the car skoda replaced of mine after 11 months of faults from new,and you really don't want any car i have owned.
