Just a quick post to say that, if, like me, you have been wondering if this is worth doing - DO IT!

With the help and advice of a good friend with vagcom; last night we gave my throttle body a good clean out and recalibrated it using vagcom (my battery has been disconnected a couple of times recently). The whole job took less than 30 mins and the difference in smoothness and sharpness to the pedal action is very noticeable. (even though it is dbw)

I did mine earlier in the year, it cured my rough idle I was surprised when the dealer told me he had not had to order a gasket in for nearly two years previously :confused: SURELY they must use them daily in a Skoda dealer? :confused: He looked at me like I had just pi55ed on his kids when I asked for one:rolleyes:

Being honest I think I was one of them hence my post really. Very surprising result. (...maybe I should cancel the vrs order now?!)

Is there any way to keep the throttle body on and clean it by opening the throttle flap rather than disassembling it? I have no issues, but hey, it can never be too clean, right?

I wouldn't leave it on - you risk getting dirt into the inlet manifold which wouldn't be fun. It's only 4 6mm allen-bolts and a couple of clips to remove anyway. Gasket is about

how did you go about cleaning it and what did you use

One pipe off, four allen bolts out to access it. Cloth and carb cleaner on the inside - holding the butterfly open to get in as far as possible from each side. Re install and then a re calibration with vagcom. Job done.

I dont have VAGCOM, thats the problem

I think Ill leave it, dont want to throw a spanner in the works.

whats the recalibration procedure mate?

will do this after summer is past (no fun working outside in 45 deg and nearly 100% humidity......)

Throttle Body Alignment

Turn the key on but do not start the car.

01 - Engine]

[Measuring Blocks - 08]

Group 060 (may be Group 098 on cable-throttle cars)

[Go!]

[switch to basic settings]

Once you do this you will see the top right display say ADP RUN. The TB adaptation is being done as soon as you switch to basic settings. You will see the values change and hear the TB cycle for the first few seconds then it will stop. Leave it in Basic Settings for about 30 seconds, then press the [switch to measuring blocks] button and you're all set.

Be sure not to touch the accelerator and make sure the engine is NOT running when you do this!

I really think this will solve your 17705 issue. It did on mine. Well worth doing, it's actually surprisingly easy to do.
