Braking problem. A bit worrying.

Featured Replies

Just started having a problem with the braking on my Superb 130 Tdi. The brake pad warning light on the dash started to come on about a week ago. Now I've seen this a few times during my ownership and I know it comes on very early. I know I can get a few more miles out of the pads.

But the problem I suddenly got yesterday was when I brake I don't get full braking power. It's not like I'm slamming on either. I get what I can only describe as a light kick back through the brake pedal. It's as if the ABS is kicking in when it shouldn't. It's quite disconcerting.

I'm gonna have the brake pads checked this morning. I'm hoping it's something simple like this. Does that brake pad warning light come on for anything other than pad wear? Can it warn of anything else going wrong with the brake system?

Low fluid level?

That was the first thing I checked. Level is OK.

I'm gonna take the car out and switch off the ABS and see if that makes a difference. I'm really hoping it's something simple like worn pads.

Switch off the ABS???

How? Wouldn't recomend pulling a fuse.

At least the front pads have a warning sensor on them. My back one's went and took the disks with them (after 24k). :(

When this happened on my Wifes punto, it was a badly warped disc.

To say I needed a change of pants after braking at a motorway slip road is an understatement!

Asked her how long her brakes had been so bad for, and she said she thought they were fine and my car had too harsh brakes!

The pads or disc could have glazed up.

Does sound like warped discs tbh, see if Skoda do a full kit, i.e 4 discs and 2 pad sets at a special rate.

GSF are much cheaper and sell the OE Textar pads.
