Badge snobbery!

Featured Replies

My parents have had Skoda's since the early 80's. Estelle's, Rapid's, Felica's, Favorites and Octavia's. As a kid I always had the mick ripped out of me! Iused to hate it and in turn not like Skodas. As I got older I thought "sod it", they seem to work well, never go wrong and then VW bought them! I now have my own and I love it so....but people still laugh and make jokes!

So does anyone have good retorts I can fire back at my mates/work colleagues?!

I :orb_flami Skoda

I'm also thinking that heart is a bit....lame!

"I hope you catch AIDs" works, I tend to find...

I'm not entirelly sure that's the best retort :-/

Don't bother - just smile (a nice long long 'knowing' smile), it's they who are missing out.......

Don't bother wasting your precious time on ignorant empty heads. The general public are generally stupid. Incidentally, one of the best replies I have heard to a Skoda joke from some gobby numptie was "You don't actually know anything about cars do you..."

Oddly enough a mate of mine at work was taking the **** yesterday when he saw the leather swatches on my desk. He said

"why are you fitting leather to a Skoda?"

I replied,

"You're about 20 years out of date....mate..."

The odd thing is, he drives and Audi!

I also enjoyed pointing out that our cars are made from the same parts bin and chances are he has at least 25% Skoda under his bonnet.

ive actually used that one several times!!! its great

I'd just tell them you agree with everything they say ;)

Chris

I work with a few narrow mind people who still laugh at the badge but when you look at what they drive I'm the one who laughing....... 1 x T-reg ford focus and 1 x 03 Clio Billabong....... Some people don't know ****. Luckily I finish at the same time as the focus owner so He see's nothing but my diesel smoke on the way home.....

To sum up....... As above just say "You don't actually know anything about cars do you..."

The Furby Vrs was the only car which ticked all the boxes.....

If you really feel the need to defend your choice of car you could come out with something like.....Yeah, and I've heard you've got a small **** but as I've never test driven you I will refrain from making assumptions :D

When looking at my car, my mate with a Mini Cooper S said " its still a f****** Skoda"

So I P***** all over it one day.

He still says it, so I remind him his brazillian car is slower than a Skoda Diesel:D :D

Just tell them they clearly don't know jack all about cars.

Bl**dy marvelous! Though I think I'll refrain from using that particular one myself.

:D :D :D :D :D

"Skodas are Audis for tight people"

Pixi, wonderfu...wonderfully funny! Not sure if I can use it though! Skoda's are Audi's for tight people! Brilliant! I drive a Porsche!!! Marvellous!

I knew you guys would have brilliant ideas!

Skoda got some airing on the, 'I'm sorry I haven't a Clue' program. Listen at:

BBC Radio Player - Audio on Demand

Then click to 26 mins into the program and soon after its mentioned a few times - not really funny but mentioned.

Tell your mate to look at the JD Power survey results , and then see who's still laughing!

VW certainly own Bentley and Lamborghini. You could tell them you drive one of those. I like the "you know sod all about cars". It really is an ego deflating put down. Anyone who knows anything about cars knows that the current crop of Skodas is light years away from the models of 30 years ago. We all know the results of the JD Power survey, and the views of motoring critics who know what they are talking about. No one would put you down for driving a VW or a Seat or an Audi and many of the parts and major assemblies are the same.

In truth, rise above petty, ignorant comment and ignore them. People who rely on out-dated prejudice are well-worth ignoring.

I'd recommend ignoring them too. If it's any help the Sunday Times letters page a year or two back had a thread on Octavias and their buyers. Apparently the working classes won't touch them with a barge pole because they aren't aspirational or flash enough whereas the middle classes can't get enough of them because they like VFM.

so that must make audi's, skoda's for posh people :P

i still enjoy the odd digg at my brother's skoda ownership...:D but seeing as his car's about to get it's 3rd gearbox, it's already needed a new standard turbo, the esp doesn't work, the abs doesn't work, the car doesn't know when you open the drivers door and i can't remember the last time he didn't have an engine warning light illuminated, there's not too much he can say

Yea but surely it's down to % of quality turnover? Every car company produces the odd bodge! I'm sure every 1 in 10000 is a bit dodgy from the Skoda line*. Point is ya can't base your judgement on a single car!

*I made that up

VAG hierarchy as i see it......

Bugatti, Bentley, Skoda

Lamborghini, Audi

VW, Seat
