hello and welcome to briskoda...

If money's not an issue, I'd reccoment the bugatti... lol....

the SE may hold its value longer, and has the nice leather seats... looks better in the flesh than the pics do it justice... some pople complain about the famous stutter, so to get around that you go for an 05 or earlier.......

i may sound thick but what the famous stutter LOL

check the sticky at the top :) if you've got a few days you could read through it! lol...

but when they made the engine euro IV compliant (06 I think) the cut the emmisions, but messed up the low speed running of the car, some people find it completely unacceptable, and some people dont notice it at all!

I discounted the SE on the basis that you cant change the spec. I dont intend on buying a car without ESP again, and as the SE isnt equipped, this wasnt an option.

Cheers.

this was one of the reasons I bought the GP... ESP is standard on the sporting.... can't believe they left it off the SE...

So are we thinking just buy a normal VRS not the SE. I think i will do that then spend the extra money i have chipping it!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!

definately, only bonus is leather seats and seat surgeons can do that fo

FWIW it's worth I didn't think you could buy a new standard vrs anymore. You'll have to find a dealer who has one sitting around or pre registered.

I would, and just have, gone for the se (for my second vrs).

Strange how people view things differently...

If the SE had ESP that wasn't completely switchable, I'd not have bought one.

VAG's ESP if far too nannying, in my opinion...it kills all the fun.

I'm not sure why people think that ESP is so important? Yes it can help you get out of trouble, but you need to somehow get into trouble first! I've never had a car with ESP, and don't feel like I'm missing out.

If money isn't an issue, get the SE.

I said the same about Cruise Control and now I wouldn't have a car without it!

the insurance companies (and they have the best data) state that there would be a 50% fall in fatal accidents if all cars were fitted with ESP... (my insirance has fallen over

cruise is a must tho not a very expensive option aswell

What do you have to spend on one, and what colour/options do you want.

My old one is available at the dealers, red, 11k miles, cruise and sunroof fitted, no marks inside and out, wheels were perfect when I traded it. Just the one owner, ME, on a 05, stutterless :P

wat dealer is it at i like red or black thats it no other colour. is the VRS as good as reviews say, i am well excited about getting one. I am only 19 so i just want to make sure its fun as hell to drive as well!!!

You simply can't make that assumption...

Yound drivers tend to drive like idiots. I'm sure I did. Most do.

ESP doesn't stop this.

Nor does it stop you heading for the undergrowth at daft speeds...

Or stop you from hitting cars head on...

Agree with this and the biggest problem is that people relying on ESP won't learn what they're doing wrong so when they get in a car without it, the accident will be bigger and more severe :(

Chris (owner of a t/c free car ;))

Just joined Briskoda and picked up my shiny new SE this weekend...and having tonnes of fun with it. It's a bit of a change from my last car ... Punto 1.2 - 57BHP 0NM of torque (well almost). Very happy with it, it's effortless to drive, and the low end pulling power is fantastic!!

STUTTER

I didn't notice "the stutter", but took my dad 5 minutes behind the wheel to spot it. He has the same problem with his Jag X-type and Audi TT along with most of the highly strung diesels that he drives at work (police pursuit instructor). Now that I've noticed it, although I would describe as a character flaw rather that "characteristic" I would go as as calling it a problem....although moving up from a feat of Italian "engineering" to the Fabia my standards are probably not as high as other members.

ESP

When looking at the standard VRS earlier in the year, I was looking at getting the ESP (based on reports of the fabias tendency to understeer) but having driven it round 200 miles of country roads and back-lanes this weekend (including, the snake, woodehead and cat & fiddle) I don't think it needs it. ESP is definitely a big help and great safety feature in the snow and heavy rain.....but then again so is taking your foot off the accelerator!

Overall very happy with my purchase.. and glad I chose the Fabia over the equivalent SEAT ibiza.

I'd be really interested to know what your dad thought of it with his obvious experience of cars and the different performance levels (including handling).

Was he impressed with it?

Exactly. ESP (and other safety devices) have their place, but they are affectively un-educating the driver. Much better in my opinion to not have ESP and learn both your own and your cars limits.

The vast majority of accidents happen because of driver error, not because the car drove too fast all by itself!

Amen!

People rely on electronics to mask their relative lack of driver skill...

Cars that are said to understeer don't understeer if the driver understands why the car does it, and drives accordingly.

ESP is all well and good as a safety net...sadly, too many people use it as a driver aid.

ESP can't make up for driver error or inapropriate speed...and it certainly can't defy the laws of physics!

I can't comment on ESP as I don't have it, and don't see the need for it personally as it's something I've never had. The worst thing on VAG cars is the ASR - it's bloody dangerous - trying to pull off quickly on busy roundabouts (for example) to follow the flow of traffic it just cuts the power - rubbish!

Turn it off!!

I opted for the ESP because I didnt know it had ASR as standard!! oops. should of done my homework.:o

never seen it come on around a bend so I am either not going fast enough or concentrating on where I am going:D
