Silver vRS.....making it shine

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've been using Autoglym Super Resin Polish followed by P21S wax on my diamond silver Furby vRS so far and I'm looking for something to make it shine a little more after all my effort. :D

The wax just seems to leave it slightly dulled and I've heard that a sealer is what's required?

I'm not wanting to spend a fortune (hence I use P21S ;) ) but would like some guidance on how to 'bring out the fleck'.

Thanks,

Chris.

Hi Chrispy, I too want my Silver fab to shine more I've tried AG SRP with TW Gloss Guard and then finished with my new baby "Collinite 915"

This is the best I have had so far but I'm thinking of adding a glaze (Meg's Mirror` Glaze, Showcar Glaze no #7)

The good thing I find with Collinite is they way she beads........

I also find finishing off with Meg's Last touch gives a bit extra and removes all the bits I missed when polishing off the wax.

That looks pretty nice. :D

My P21S'd Furby looks quite like that when it's been done. You can't beat it when it beads like that in the rain.

I've heard though that using a wax actually dulls the shine slightly whereas a sealer (or sealant - dunno which) can actually increase the amount of silver fleck that shows through.

My missus silver Pug shines a lot better when polished up as the paint is a little less grey than mine. The glare actually hurts your eyes. :D

Try Auto Glym high gloss protection. follow the instructions on the back to the letter and see the results. Its hard work buffing it up, but well worth it. ( the car that is!!! )

Isn't the Autoglym stuff designed for dark colours?

Not as far as I am aware. I used it on my Mondeo several cars ago, it was a champange type colour and was blooming brilliant.

I've just bought and used Turtle Wax Platinum Precision Car Wax and the Platinum Extra Gloss sealant (a very thin liquid - like water). I bought them on the strength of the AutoExpress reviews and tests (as very few places actually test the look and longevity of the products), and in the Halfords 3 for 2 current buy.

This evening was dull - but the shine and reflectivity is still visible.

One thing is noticeable - the bonnet and roof (due to time constraints) were not treated with the Extra Gloss and look duller and a slightly different colour by comparison. The rest is very glossy, the Extra Gloss has brought out the 'sparkly bits' in the paint (though not really visible in the photo).

The wheels have only had the wax on - a kneebreaker of a job (should invest in a ramp  ). I then had to drive several miles and by that time they were grimy. I needn't have worried - washing them was an absolute doddle by comparison with the usual hard rubbing in places with the microfibre glove. The 'kneebreaking' paid off and will make it so much easier in the future. Plus, intend to treat them with the Extra Gloss soon - time and all this rain, notwithstanding.

So, impressed.

How much were these products out of curiosity?

My old Ibiza:

Claybar, Mezerna IP, Mezerna FPII, Klasse All-in-One sealant, Meg's Gold Class Wax x2 coats.

I had the wax already (now use Collinite 476S), but the other products were specifically chosen for a silver car and PorterCable use, following discussions with Rich of Polished Bliss fame.

Interesting thread, i too have a silver vRS use only Autogym products and want to get more shine if possible! Sorry to hijack but what is the best clay to get, and does this help achieve a more deep shine? I thought claying wasnt necessary on newer cars.

I used Autoglym polish the autoglym gloss of both My Silver Octi estate and SWMBO's silver Fabia vrs. The fabia looks better now than when we picked it up from the dealer.

I just use EGP every other week.

I'll take a pepsi paint work challenge with anyone.

Hmm...interesting. The use of sealants seems to be a common thing here.

The SWMBO's Pug comes up really well with just Autoglym super resin polish and

P21S wax, almost to the point of brilliance but her paint seems to be a lot less grey than that applied to the Furby. Her's has a more sliver fleck to it whereas the Fabia is more dulled. To bring out the fleck would be ideal. :D

How did you get your alloys looking so clean??

Mine are always left with some brake dust on them!! :(
