Fabia vrs 60000 mile service

Featured Replies

My fabia vrs is due a 60000 mile service.and i was wondering what exactly is renewed or replaced e.g fuel filter, air filter etc when you take it to a main stealer....

when does the cambelt need doing on vrs's out of interest?

60k for your cambelt mate, get the waterpump tensioner and rollers changed at the same time to save hassle, and if you can get a metal impellor waterpump as the plastic ones can go brittle and break up!

How much is that std cambelt change at Skoda? (incl tensioners etc).

'around'

Roughly based on

3.5 hours labour @

And i'd be jiggered if I'd trust anyone at a Nationwide Autocentre to do a cambelt.

They did the brakes on my Golf once.

Never again...

Hi guys!

I am a bit of an interloper here as a Citroen boy but I have had my fair share of Skodas including a BRIGHT yellow Rapide coupe and a slightly more sensible Octavia Combi. Anyway the reason I am posting is that my old mans VRs is now at 55K and is on a 53 plate so the issue of the cambelt has reared its ugly head.

Plan A is to DIY as he is a tight sod and has a gulible son.........!

I assume from the above that the water pump, tensioners are a cunning plan which is what I figured. Anything else I need to watch out for?

I was told by a guy who worked for VW, that theres not that much room to work in. Any truth in that?

Engine mounting stretch bolts should be replaced (they have been known to break otherwise) and you will find it very much easier to have the correct crankshaft locking tool, camshaft locking pin and tensioner locking tool to hand.

Otherwise, apart from manouvering the top engine mount out which was a bit of a guddle, as cambelt replacement goes, I found it pretty straightforward. :)

No tensioner tools for the vRS but yes you will need a crank locking tool and a cam locking tool.

Cheers. How much are the crankshaft and camshaft locking tools going to cost or are they straightforward to make. I can wield a MiG and grinder with some aplomb!

I have just ordered the Haynes manual, are they described in there?

The cam locking tool is simple enough a drill bit would suffice.

The crank locking tool however...

is a little more complicated.

Never ever had to lock the crank up when doing a belt before... Is it really necessary?

I know the cam needs to be locked though...

Yep, them's the boyz !

Although as previously mentioned by Lummox, apparently the small flat tool with the cutout (tensioner locking tool) isn't required on the VRS .... very useful on the ATD engine code 1.9Tdi though ! :)
