Beware of the puddles

Featured Replies

Can't see why claiming would be a problem, we have had customers who have claimed for new engines as a result of knocking a hole in the sump, new carpets because a scuttle drain got blocked with leaves and the car flooded. Remember if the water can get into the engine it can also get into the transmission. Fabia gearboxes seem problematic at the best of times, but 12 months further along and it starts to whine it may not be a warranty job when the dealer drains the oil and a rusty water/oil sludge comes out.

Best thing you can do if it stops in a puddle due to hyro locking is leave it there and ensure that it gets written off - it will save you a lot of hassle later on.

Due to a rush of blood, I got out and pushed my baby out of the water on my own!

I'm hoping it get's taken today to the garage I bought it from. I will ask for written assurances that they will do everything to make it like it was before yesterday's events and that anything that is flood/water related is their responsibility.."weather" that's going to happen is another matter.

Every person I know who has claimed has been succesful. I even bought a written off car once & it had been written off due to this very thing, a s/hand lump cost

I hope you're talking about the ones made of water

And the only way to prevent the car sucking in water is to move the air intake higher. Why do you think all the proper offroaders have snorkies? ;)

Chris

Surely It's quite high already? You'd have to be driving through water up to about headlight level or more, no?

but if you go through the water at speed it gets chucked upwards underneath. as for a snorkie i dont think a fabia would cope with the loss of the aero dynamics lol.

allthough i think an optional removable one would be handy of late. maybe add an outboard motor to the back lol

Got rid of my PD160 intake because of the water risk.

It has some of the intake showing below the trumpet deflector so there must be more of a chance of water going in.

Three months ago I inadvertantly splashed into the biggest puddle on the way

home from work and thought this is it, wait for the engine to die but it kept

going, thank fnck :)

Wonder if THESE GUYS will successfully claim

Do you think the driver's last words before he drove into it were "watch this, lads!":rofl:

For the record, I didn't look at the puddle and decide I should race through it.

Mine is at the garage now, assessor is due there in the morning. I made a phone call to the garage and said that there was a bit of water damage to the interior from behind the glove box. She swiftly replied, "We put the heater system on and got a shower."

Here's to hoping the insurance will cover the cost and get it back to me soonish.

I wish you luck my friend.
