No. :D

The "130" is a clue.

Actually, if anything the Golf has the better power to weight ratio ...

Golf 1261 Kgs (5 door)

Fabia VRS 1315 Kgs

so the golfs a bit lighter but whats the cost like

More from what I've seen. When I was looking at Golfs and Fabias, for

Why are the Furbies soo heavy  If they are similar to the Polos etc, surely they should weigh less than the Golf which is visibly bigger? Is it the Skoda badge that weighs them down!

a golf lighter than a fab!!?.....to look at you would never think that!!....my fab is sat next to one right now and the golf looks huge next to it!!.....you learn something new every day!!:)

k:)

I've been looking at the Golfs too but as mentioned an equivilant one with the same milage and plate does seem to be a lot more expensive.

For me at nineteen, they are also 400 quid more expensive on insurance.

Plus... its a Golf! Good cars but just say "bland" to me. I'd rather have something a bit rarer with bit more charachter, the VRS is so much more kitsch

Id say its something to do with the fact that the Mk4 Golf has much less twist resistance/body flex & less safety equipement.

The Mk4 Golf is an old design now pen to paper was probably back in 1994/95 while the fabia was a good 3 years after that.

Accordimg to a recent Swedish company who has been testing cars on a dyno, the Fabia VRS they had produced 129bhp at the wheels, so a lot more than 130bhp at the flywjeel. Don't know how the Golf compares to that?

Same for Golf PD130's they mostly tend to give more than the 130bhp claimed when put on the rollers.

Hardly surprising though as it's virtually the same 1.9 VAG "TDI lump" & VNT17 turbo (on the Golf PD130's) as is fitted to the VRS Fabia. :)

Interesting on that quoted weight - I spent half Saturday upgrading software on a weighbridge and I had to keep driving on and off to test it ...

Result : VRS with 3/4 tank = 1260 kg (+- 20)

Interesting, I guess the weights quoted must be with a full tank of fuel then ?

With diesel weighing less than a kilo a litre, there must be something else involved too. Wonder if it was specced up with all the options?

Chris

Don't parkers test cars with 4 people in? Or is the quoted figure unladen?

Just checked the "technical data" booklet and it says 1245-1315 kg "unladen" for the vRS

What combination of options weighs 60kg ?

Xenons (inc 5 litre washer bottle) and leccy sunroof must contribute....

Chris

Got all the toys on mine except for satnav as I got a TomTom910 instead a lot later, and added a lot of weight with sound proofing, bigger turbo, FMIC, 17" wheels, perhaps even exhaust, the metal sump protector.

Still, it goes well enough so I don't care :P

Weight cant affect it that much.. at least compared to petrol equivalants... with that huge amount of pulling torque

Put it this way, the back seats, toolkit and spare weigh 60kg.

Yes, 60KG

60kg thats the weight of a small person

They always say 10% less weight is better for performance than 10% more power.

what extra safety features does a fabia have compared to the mk4 golf? i can't think of any.

and yes weight does make a difference, it doesn't matter how much power or torque you have you increase it to improve your power/torque to weight ratio.

if your car starts with say 100bhp and weighs 1000Kg then your looking at 100bhp/tonne, if you add 10% power it goes to 110bhp/tonne but taking off 10% weight gives you 111.1rbhp/tonne so weight makes a bigger difference than power if the same number is added/taken away :)

so on a fabia vRS weighing 1300Kg for arguements sake losing that 60Kg is like adding 4bhp :D

Felt like more than that ;)

Having owned both I know the rear seats are lighter in the Golf. I am not sure by how much but they don't weigh as much as the slabs in the Fabia so there is a start. I think the front brakes on the Golf are smaller too, but interestingly the PD150 Golf weighs 1388kg

Mystery weight!

probably did but it might be a subconsious type thing, knowing you've done something so expecting a change. i know i've done it before.

Well it seemed to show too on a recent track day, I have witnesses...

not doubting you mate, but obviously when taking cornering into account theres more gain.
