Central lock and fuel flap

Featured Replies

Hello from Russia!

I have Octavia A5 Elegance manufactured in 2007 equipped with original alarm with volume sensor.

It is described in the manual that when I press lock button on remote twice in 2 secs the doors will stay locked (however without deadlock) but fuel flap will be unlocked.

While I find such feature very useful to keep car locked during refueling... it doesn't work on my Octavia.

It works only in first part: deadlocks are disabled and I can open car from inside but alarm begins to scream when I open a door. I think this is ok.

However fuel flap stays locked anyway :(

My dealer is trying to research why it works (or not works) in such way but has no results yet.

I was asking on various forums and people confirmed that it works on some cars and doesn't work on other.

Do you know anything about this feature and why it may be not working?

On mine if the doors are locked the fuel cap is locked.

On mine if the doors are locked the fuel cap is locked.

Even if you push lock button twice as described in owner's manual?

You can de-activate the safe securing system (deadlocking). This is done by locking the vehicle with the key or radio-operated key twice within 2 seconds.

If car isn't deadlocked:

Red LED flashes 2 seconds fast and then every 30 seconds,

Fuel filler cap is unlocked.

Thanks very much I have just had to go all the way downstairs and then outside to the vehicle.

It is amazing what you can learn from handbooks.

Yes if you double click the locking then the filler cap does open up, but with a single click it remains locked.

Now I must impart this knowledge to my wife.

Cool :)

Looks like this is useful but not well-known feature. And perhaps Skoda decided not to put it in some cars just because nobody even knows about it :)

My dealer says that they tried it on 8 cars and it wasn't working on all of them. But on Russian, Ukrainian and now on this community people write that everything works ok.

I'm curious whether I can to contact Skoda directly with this problem? :)

Are Skodas popular in Russia?

What other makes do you have in the popular sales leagues?

Also what are the engine sizes and fuels that sell the best?

Well, first Octavia (Tour) is quite popular but other Skodas are not very common here. Really lots of people think Skoda as poor Volkswagen that costs too much.

When I say that I bought Skoda Octavia for about $28500 everybody's reaction is just like "Are you crazy?" :)

About other makes... Well, Ford Focus II is absolutely the most popular foreign (however they are assembled near Saint-Petersburg) car here. Toyota is popular along with other japan makes like Mazda or Honda. But it's difficult to name popular makes because people just buy almost everything :)

Now about engines. Petroleum cars are leaders here, many car manufacturers don't even sell diesel versions in Russia. Perhaps this is due to cold climate and bad fuel quality. If we talk about Skoda - 1.8T (150bhp) is popular for Octavia Tour. For new Octavia popular engines are 1.6 MPI (102 bhp) and 2.0 FSI (150bhp). My car is equipped with 1,6 FSI (116bhp) but it is very rare engine. My dealer says that I'm only third who bought such car from them :)

Also people like 2 litre diesel (140bhp) in new Octavias, but again it is just not as popular as it could be because difficulties with diesel engines.

I heard that diesels are very common in Europe, is this so?

PS: Is this off-topic?.. :)

AnKor,

Thanks for that information, interesting to read!

Nice to have you here on the forum! :)

Cheers,

M

Thanks for the info AnKor it made interesting reading and it is interesting that you have a large Japanese presence there, not that you should not. I used to work for the Mazda importer here in the UK and there is no two ways about it the Japanese design and build an excellent vehicle.

Diesel vehicles are very big sellers throughout Europe and have now become the big thing here in the UK. The majority of countries in Europe sell diesel fuel at a price that is cheaper than petrol, but in the UK diesel cost a fair bit more than petrol, plus you can pay up to $4000 more for a diesel powered car than you do for a petrol.

I tried this double-clicking on my 1.6 FSI Ambiente. The fuel flap doesn't unlock fully, but it certainly comes out further than in a fully locked condition. My guess is that there is a mechanical adjustment inside the bodywork at the fuel flap which would enable this option to work (or to disable it if you don't want it). My old Primera had a similar adjustment on the boot lock, enabling or disabling the option to open the boot from the driver's seat.

I'll have to investigate further.

Just tried this on my new vRS, and the fuel flap doesn't unlock with two clicks.

I wonder if this can be changed with VAG-COM?

Bagpuss.

Interesting. I'll try to find out something about that.

When I came to my dealer they tried to find such option but had no luck with that

We received answer from Skoda:

Vehicles produced before the model year 2007 have the function according to the owners manual, ie. after double-pressing the remote control the car is locked and the fuel flap remains open.

However, in case of the vehicles of the model year 2007 and newer (that means also your vehicle) it depends on the electronic equipment presented in the car. If the car is equipped only with the mechanical windows lifting (all 4 door glass regulators) or if the car is equipped with the electric window lifts in the front only (the rear 2 door are with glass regulators) then the fuction also works the way as you need it. However, if the vehicle is equipped with all four electric window lifts then the function is not available. I believe that this unfortunately your case, ie. your car has all 4 electrical window lifts...

I also checked the possibility of activating this function with diagnostic tools in the Skoda service, however, I was told that due to the electronic devices this unfortunately is not possible.
