Performance comparisons chart (interesting)

Featured Replies

I photographed these test stats from volkswagen driver mag.

vRS performance is gonna be the same as mk4 golf 130.

Six speed box in a Fabia vRS.

Six speed in the Golf too.

Fabia weighs 60kg+ less than a Fabia as per other thread.

I'd take these results with a pinch of salt Autocars results are the most accurate

Didnt the early PD130 golfs run a 5 speeder

No the GT TDI 115 on only a very limited number had 5 speed I had a May 2000 W reg and that was 6 speeder.

My old 51 plate 130pd audi ran a 5speed.

My Passat PD130 is a 5 speed? Point being?

All PD130 Golfs and Boras were 6 speed. :)

EDIT - sorry, that sounds ****ty - don't mean to come across like a *****...

So the 9.5 seconds quoted time for the vRS 0-60 really isnt accurate then?

I've read claims of between 7 and 10.

I've read claims of between 7 and 10.

And they are just that, claims ;)

Which magazine was it? Autocar or Autoexpress that averaged 8 and a bit seconds over repeated tests, with one run of 7 and a bit on a cold frosty morning.

It's generally accepted that the 9.6 time is a little conservative.

Never timed myself, but it doesn't seem to struggle against cars with better official 0-60 times.

So the Audi A3 has the same engine as the Mk5 Golf, same power, weighs less and is nearly a second slower to 60?

There are a range of figures, maybe because it is difficult to get the best out of a diesel... with a petrol you redline it, easy, but knowing when to change in the diesel is the key! (and times slowed by the weaker first gear and more changes required!)

and so it begins.......

My Passat PD130 is a 5 speed?

Somewhat different gearbox to the transverse Golf etc.

Perhaps skoda quoted the 0-60 conservatively to keep the IG down?

IIRC, Autocar also got a sub 7 second time out of the Octy vRS Mk1 ..... later transpired the press car had been fettled with ;)

Yes, I'm sure they did cos the insurance co. would never spot that ;) Same with underestimating the stock power too ;)

So 9.6 is realistic then? Or does it depend on the car?

It is around the 9 seconds to 60 time.

I was under the impression that VAG quoted all such figures with two average adults

20kg of luggage and half a tank of fuel.

A VRS with a decent remap and decent tyres will do mid to low 7's

It's not that the vRS's doesn't have the power, but it just cannot get the power down (also, first gear is very short and lifeless). Look at Devonutopia, running 220hp, and he only managed a 7.5 second time to 60.

Hence my point about the tyres ;)

This is completley right. It's not the car's Forte by any means and it takes skill and practice to get a good 0-60 in it.

Besides, how often does 0-60 truly come in useful unless on the strip at santa pod? Its speed through the midrange which is most useful in everyday driving surely?

Correct, and also how it delivers the speed. 0-60, is being disgust purely because of the first post. And how it relates to it.

The 0-60 time of the vRS feels quicker than it is due to the surge of torque. Too many gear changes are required to make it any good in that dept as it's a diesel.

1st gear is useless, 2nd is over too quickly and you need 3rd to sweep past 60.

In addition, the gear throw is too long and in this milder weather, you need an FMIC to have any kind of power and to aid breathing/ reduce heat soak when caning it.

I'd like a go in a Golf GT-TDi 150 to see what they feel like. Been in a mapped Furby but I'm wondering how they compare.

Oh and by the way, Snoopie, my mate is currently drying out his CTR carpets after it got flooded in Hull. He's not a happy bunny. :(
