Just got all the stuff thought the post about the new Virgin media packages.

Is it any good?

Can you really get all that for

you don't get Sky channels...

you don't get Sky channels...

Not quite true. You don't get sky one. You can still get movies and sports etc..

nooo, its crap! We had it at our other house, the tv channels get freezing or breaking up, the broadband just kept going off and we were soooooooo sick of it:eek: We moved house and found out we could not get it here anyway, (or Sky:mad: ) so we now have BT broadband and its miles better!

Thank you all for that how do all the other providers compare on prices and what they are offering. BT looks cheap for the first 6 months then the price goes though the roof .

We've been on Virgin (previously ntl) for 6 years now and in that time had only a few hours downtime. We did have some problems with picture quality for a while but that was traced to a dying set top box and since the replacement it's been fine. Their customer service sucks, though.

movies and sports are additional, you pay for them. you have to pay for them if you got Sky!

We`ve been on cable for years, hardly any downtime, and only pay

we've had cable for a few years, and have no complaints other than their Broadband Support phoneline has recently shifted from being free to being 0870....

Just changed to Virgin BB+Phone ---cost

We have the full Virgin package.

Lots of tv, wide broadband, and lots of telephony.

I think it's

The product works fine, but the workforce are MORONS!! They obviously haven't changed the staff since they were telewest because they were just as bad. However it meant we got lots of free stuff out of them :)

I've had cable for several years (used to work for ntl) never really had a problem with the product but even for someone who worked there customer service (or employee service is generally appauling... but then I can't really think of a large company with good customer service).

I quite like the v+ box :)

As soon as my Virgin contract runs out I will be going back to Sky. Just need to work out how to get internet without having a landline.

I have had lots of problems with the service loss of picture etc and their customer service is appaling. It took six weeks for them to reply to an email when they did they told me that a techie would call me the same day to sort my problems. They did offer to cut the cost of the tv service (about

do they not offer just an internet/phone connection?

or is it all or nothing?

We have been with ntl (now virgin) for at least 7 years, and apart from a small issue a couple of years ago have no problems with their service. We dropped the tv in favour of freeview 2 years ago, as we werent really using the extra channels (not because of problems with the tv) and never have any problems with our broadband which always runs at the 4mb quoted speed. The website in my sig below is hosted on a server at home, as I had more problems with my hosting provider than ntl.

It would seem it depends on what area you are currently in as to what service you get. If you are an ex ntl or telewest area, I suspect the service provided to be of good quality. The issues are mostly with the smaller cable companies who had poor networks to start with before ntl/virgin bought them. Dont forget what is currently the virgin media empire, consists of at least 12 individual companies that have been merged.

or is it all or nothing?

I had broadband only for about 3 years and have just switched my phone over to them

No probs here they even chucked in freeview for

My telewest connection has been very reliable over the last 6 or 7 years.

The odd bit of downtime but never anything serious.

Thanks everybody this is more information than i could have wished for.

There are so many options i have know idea who to go with. We have bb next door in our office but that was set up by the Wildlife Trust.

Do i have this right, who ever you go with you always end up using BT lines etc unless you have the cable option?

correct, to use any other ISP you must have a BT line, for Virgin you dont as that comes down the same cable as their tv service.

Yeah and try to avoid the bt plus third party route as they like to blame each other when theres a problem

In my experiance bt line and bt internet is the best option for adsl as they can only blame themselves not the third party
