High performance brake uprgade on the Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

I managed to kill the whole braking system in 31kkm, pads wore out completely, discs are a bit deformed and worn due to high temps, and braking fluid was overheated way too many times.

Anyway I would like to upgrade to something really good, I've been thinking of:

brembo performance discs / ferodo ds2500 brake pads / motul RBF 600 braking fluid

the problem is that brembo does not officially make HP discs for the Fabia vRS (only the 1.9TDI 100hp and below), but the salesman told me that the ones from VW corrado G60 fit... and the price of the pads is somewhere around 200

You can fit the 312mm front discs from the Mk1 Octavia vRS on the Fabia vRS, which were also fitted to the Mk4 Golf GTI and the Mk1 Audi TT to name a few. So anything that can be fitted to any of those, will go onto your Fabia in theory...

I would like to stay in the factory dimensions only improving the parts that wear out regularly. The larger discs would mean larger calipers, more work, more money... The stopping power is adequate for now but a bit more wouldn't hurt (that's what I'm looking for with new pads/discs).

312mm Audi TT kit, often flogged here by Golfturbo (or on other forums), fits under the standard 16" wheels.

If you go for Brembos you'll want 17" wheels, or perhaps if you're lucky you can get away with spacers maybe.

I've fitted standard-size (285mm) uprated discs at the front, along with uprated pads (Mintex Extremes). There's a bit of a debate going on at the moment as to whether it's worth using uprated discs, or whether it's better to use standard discs and just upgrade the pads. All I know is that the brakes I have now are better than they were. This may just be down to the pads, or it may be down to the discs as well - I don't know!

The 312 kit will cost you

Yep, the 312 kits from Golf Turbo are brand new - includes caliper, carriers, disks, pads and flexi hoses. For

I'm pretty certain that all Corrado G60s run four stud 280mm discs. They are probably late Golf MK3 VR6 discs being 288x25mm.

As others have said though a 312mm setup would be a worthwhile upgrade.

312mm all the way.

Also one of the better upgrades you can do is change your fluid to 5.1

I disagree with the 5.1 being a decent upgrade - I'd recommend Super Dot 4

Erm... Maybe I was misunderstood in the original post, I'm not really into "tuning"; while I understand that larger discs bring more stopping power I'm only looking to improve what is already here, a slight variation from the factory defaults.

Tom vRS, I happen to agree with the decision for OEM Skoda discs since they've really put out some massive destruction downhil more than once (nice orange color :) ) but are a bit deformed so I thought a brand name manufacturer could only be better?

I also agree with Super DOT 4 being superior to 5.1 (IIRC, the 5.1 has only good anti-corrosion features and does not absorb moisture, whilst the <5.1 DOT brake fluids have a high boiling point, long lifetime and other more important features)

Just don't worry about the cost, whip the plastic out and get yourself a nice ECS setup... A mate in our club's just got some for his mk4 golf - they're a bit nutty and stop on a sixpence!

What's been posted should show you that tweeking what you have is prabably not the cheapest or most cost effective option.

Uprated discs, pads and fluid (5.1 or super 4, whatever you prefer ;) ) will cost only slightly less than the 312 set up and it will be not as good. The upgrade you suggested will cost around

If you want a tweeked standard setup, just uprate the fluid and fit Mintex Extreme pads. Cost about

Combine that with some performance fluid and some DS2500 pads and you won't ever want for better brakes.

I just have the GolfTurbo setup. Fitting on thursday. Should i just stay with that until worm and add good fluid, then get the DS2500?

Or do the pads as well now, in a oner.

I'd make use of the kit you have at the moment, seems a waste otherwise. Then take a look round at pad/disc alternatives when the time comes.

Double post

I did my research and found out that while it is a great braking fluid, it does have a long lifetime, unlike the Ferodo Racing 5.1 which is great (maybe even better than Motul) but doesn't last long.

Anyway, I found the discs, OMP racing TFS/2074 for ~

Don't forget that the performance of your brakes will be ultimately limited by the performance of your tyres. The braking on mine felt a lot more positive when I got rid of the Premacies it came with and fitted Proxeses...

Golfturbo,where do i findhim?

And ultimately ultimately limited by the performance of the driver! ;)
