knocking/banging on front end

Featured Replies

guys i have a noise coming from front end. It bangs and clatters when i go over any bumps in the road sounds well dodgy.

The car is a vrs 02 plate i can't see anything wrong. Could it be the ARB? i have heard this is a common fault. It sounds like a banging on the suspension but when i push on it no problem????

ARB and or drop links or a busted spring.

ARB bushes would be my first guess.

I had a knocking going over bumps. I got the ARB bushes changed at the dealers, but the noise persisted. Sent it back to them last week, and apparently it needs two new readiator mounts. See if there is even a small bit of movement at the bottom of the rad, it could be the mounts.

I have the same problem, but had a new arb and bushes done couple weeks ago so it's not that. ?

Hi Chaps,

Sorry to bounce this thread back to the top but my 2002 vrs has started knocking from the front end, it creaked about 8 months ago and I covered the arb bushes in fairy liquid of all things and this cured it!!

Now I have the knocking that others have suffered with! It has been to the local VAG ' Specialist ' who took 60 quid off me for finding nothing wrong.

My question is if the bushes are jiggered would their be play on the arb as I have been under the car and levered/ barred the arb and cant see any movement in the bushes!?

How much are they and should I put uprated ones in or standard?

Thanks in advance

Tom

My car's a Fabia vRS therefore might be pointless mentioning the following, however, you never know.

Over undulating/rough surfaces I had an intermittent heavy clonking sound from the front end.

There was no consistent pattern to this - sometimes over the exact same stretch of road it would be evident, other times not at all. Really aggravating.

However, on investigation the dealer found the source of the clonking - the gearbox mount. This was a known issue as Skoda UK had already issued a workshop instruction sheet. The fix was to apply some silicone grease around the mount. That was it - clonk gone. Hard to believe that some grease was all that was needed, but there's no doubt it has worked.

As I say, this might be useless info but might be worth mentioning to your dealer.

Good luck.

Thanks for that ming, I will have a look under the car, this is something I had not looked at.

Ta,

Tom

Take the clips that hold the bushes off the arb and look where the bushes sit on the arb, as the plastic coating on the arb is known to crack and this lets water onto the arb and rust starts bubbling on the bar.

You cannot see it just by looking from under the car.

New bar and bushes, and problem solved:thumbup:
