Retrofitted multifunctional steering on vRS (a lot of pics)

Featured Replies

Hello everybody.

My first experience was with bluetooth kit - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/retrofit-multifunctional-steering-original-bluetooth-vrs/81401/

And now I am happy to present a succesful installation of MFS

First of all, what do I used:

1. 1Z0419091G - MFS with radio buttons

2. 1K0953549AQ - steering controller for MFS

3. 1K0971584C - airbag wire for MFS

May be it will necessary to change a wiring loom for steering column (right part is 1K0959653C - for me it was happy to have it from factory, check yours before you start. If you have 1K0959653 - it need to be replaced) and airbag if you have three-spoken steering.

And you will need access to VAG COM for complete installation!

Last step - coding a new controller via VAG-COM and adaptation steering angle sensor (it is need because installtion of a new "blank" controller)

All works fine! And more - I play with coding and find that MUTE button can activate my BLUETOOTH voice dialing! I am happy twice!

All comments and question are welcome. And sorry for my bad english - I am from Russia

An excellent guide (somewhat better than workshop instructions I dare say) and your English is superb.

You have been a busy man:)

Top job mate and a very nice guide:thumbup:

Some remarks:

1. 1Z0419091G - MFS with radio buttons.

It is possible to use 1Z0419091H - MFS with radio and phone buttons if you have factory or retrofitted original phone kit. I bought my MFS on ebay and could not find a 1Z0419091H, only 1Z0419091G. Also there is a possibility to install GOLF V GTi steering wheel and airbag, but it will be with red illumination and VW logo

2. 1K0953549AQ - steering controller for MFS.

Also it is possible to use a 1K0953549AK controller

I saw this kit from vRS on ebay. In new condition it was about 250 euro. Think that it is very good price (especcialy in compare with dealers price)

Cheers, Ive been looking on E-Bay but no luck so far. Uk dealers wanted around around

Great job.

It is a pity though that you have to go to all that efffort to get multi-function controls on a vRS as, IMHO, the look of the three spoke wheel is better (than the four spoke) and more sporty to suit the vRS.

I bet your classic driver with the vRS wheel is REALLY pleased.

You beat me to it again Andrey. I have the email you sent to me yesterday and I had set aside a couple of hours to produce the guide today ;) .

Oh well.

Interesting to note the controller had the plug on it with some pins but just not the right ones.

Nice work though mate - well done. I spent some time yesterday looking at the coding problems you emailed me about, I thought I had a theory but now I'm not so sure. If it works out I'll let you know.

It is a pity

Yes, but it is individual question. For me buttons mean more, then "sport" style.

I think, that using Golf V GTi MFS is a good solution for guys like you.

Stu, I thought that you lost my mail (because I have no answer) and decide to make an short anoncment here before sendind another mail. Of course, I think that your article will have more words and details than my message here and will be more interesting for visitors of your web site

About controller - fistly I decide to just add pins on my old controller, but it was a bad idea because not only pins are absent as we see in the inside of controller.

With coding everything fine now I think.

If someone need the parts like controller or MFS - ask VRStu because he know the place, where I bought it and can help to other with good (very good) prices. ;)

nice guide

Did the same modification to my standard Octy II a week ago.

Thanks to TallioN's excellent guide and VRStu's excellent help in sourcing the parts, the job was pretty straightforward and simple.

I had the 4-spoke leather wheel as a standard, so the only things needed were MFSW without airbag, new AQ ending control module (old one was F ending) and a new airbag wire.

The actual installation took something like 50 minutes including the coding and adaptation of the new control module.

The hardest part was to find the suitable toolset for the steering wheel nut. Only one place in here had them as a sale item :)

And what's it like? Absolutely fantastic piece of equipment. It makes the life a lot easier and driving much more safer. Now I don't need to reach to the headunit at any point. Just drive and enjoy :)

I still haven't got round to doing this yet.

A case of both having the time and bravery.

Wish i could find someone local to do it !

Just do it :)Do you need to change the control module also, or just the steering wheel and airbag wire? The control module is a bit tricky to get off from the steering column, but easy when you know about the hidden clip in the middle :)There's a very very small risk of blowing the airbag on your face. Just make sure the battery negative is disconnected. Also some caution needed when changing the airbag wire.

Dont think i need to change the control module.

Would have to check again using the VIN number

Nice work guys :)

Can we clarify if a Golf V GTi or Audi S3 MFSW will go on ok then?

I would really like a MFSW again (miss it in the old Golf) but the Elegance 4 spoke is a bit bland - hence looking at GTi or similar.

Cheers

Dan

Yes will fit but you'll need an airbag and you'll need to be sure you have the correct steering controller.

I have Golf V GTI wheel with flappy pedals. It fits perfectly.

But you do need different airbag for it. Dont know about Audi steeringwheel.

Excellent guide, thanks mate!!

Can you tell me if the 3 spoke and 4 spoke wheels are the same size??

What colours do the Audi and VW wheel buttons illuminate??

Thanks in advance!! :)

Hello everybody.

Hello!

You write this in your frist posting.

Can you please tell me, which coding you changed for activating the Bluetooth dialing?

Thanks a lot ;)

This might help -

Thanks also go to Andrey Economov of Russia for his help and especially for the following information -

If you have a car fitted with the Multi Function Steering Wheel it is possible to modify the coding so that you can use the Mute button on the steering wheel to activate the voice dialling function of the installed telephone system.

Using VAG-COM open Controller 16 - Steering and select Coding 07.

You should see a 7 digit softcode which will be in the format 00xxxxx

The 4th digit from the right corresponds to the steering wheel variant. If you have a 4 spoke MFSW without the Cruise Control buttons it should be a 2. Change this to a 3 and that should convert your Mute button to activate the Voice Dialling.

This might help -

an thats all? I hope it works. ;)

Thanks a lot!

so has anyone actually done the multifunction golf gti steering wheel mod yet?
