my first proper RC car

Featured Replies

i bought a tamiya RC kit recently with a TT-01 chassis and an escort WRC shell :)

built it in no time but had to wait for the paint before finishing the shell, don't think i did a too shoddy job but its not perfect, love the colour

been modding it already though :o

fitted metal ball bearing diffs front and rear - kinda like little LSD's, they have made the car much more responsive and also it will now donut on dry tarmac :D

alloy prop - probably not lighter than the standard plastic item but doesn't flex ;)

carbon upper frame - not here yet but apparently makes it stiffer

4300MaH battery - goes a little better and laster lots longer

want to get a 21 turn motor and the ESC to take it so it goes faster :D

they are fantastic fun but today i discovered that they don't like like puddles :o

forgot to say wing is now blue and wing mirrors are blue and fitted :)

Cool, I got one of those for my birthday in March - not modded yet but you're right about them not liking the wet :(

Hmmmm might have to get mine out of the loft now :D

well it was being a **** last night sometimes working and sometimes not but this morning it was more reliable after a night of drying out, think i better go give it a test drive :D

woot!!

it still works :D

Bengie mate, do me a huuuuggge favour...

Cut down the scaffolding :P

Otherwise looks good:thumbup:

Be careful with the diffs as the diff screws on Tamiya's are prone to snapping, and remember to re adjust the diff after you have ran it for 5 mins as they loosen themselves when they bed in.

Also, good lad for getting the alloy prop shaft. Its the first mod that is needed on this chassis as the original one twists massivly.

21 turn motor is a sensible choice, I have some 5 turn motors here though if you fancy melting the car in 2 seconds but having more zip than rick waller hearing that the pie shop is giving away free pies;)

the diff came with a locking screw so hopefully won't be a problem but cheers anywya

Scaffolding is a no no.

As long as you dont get an Mtronics esc youll be fine:thumbup:

Now you see theres the bind, ive had an ECO 27 for years and its been just fine, plus its waterproof.

You must be in the lucky few :P

Jaysus Bengie, its a slippery slope with these RC cars. I seem to be spending a forture on parts for mine. A track car would be as cheap me thinks

yeah but when i spaz mine into a wall at full pelt it bounces off so i think its cheaper in the long run :D

Why didnt you buy a petrol RC? Ive never had anything but Battery and its very annoying after 5-10 mins of play you have to change the battery and get charging up - while your mates petrol ones keep going with that screaming tiny engine.

Has anyone considered making a TDi - and remapping one for a RC the in gear would be great.

And those sweet little onboard dic bakes which properly work are fantastic.

Battery is quicker though:P

But they dont last very long.

The noise is also quite different.

I last had one 15 years ago - still up in the loft, how long do batteries last these days 5 mins flat out?

Nop, 40 mins easy if you have what I have :P

mine will last the same, 45mins of fun if not more and the same again to charge it, i have had a nitro car and they are a lot more hassle as they are dirty, smelly, cut out when cornering on less then 1/2 a tank easily, need setting up, don't always start and sometimes just run like a bag of crap.

with the battery car i charge the battery, plug it in and off i go. done.

and wtf are you on about with a TDi?? that simply wouldn't work well at all, most nitro cars have 1 gear so a car with limited revving like a diesel would be rubbish, a nitro engine revs to crazy rpm's :)

Ive got 3 in my monster truck :P

Used to have a 2 speed gearbox on my electric car too :D

Revs on the nitro engines are about 30,000 ish but has 3.5hp ish

Revs on a brushless motor 70,560 ish ;) but has about less than 1hp

So for trucks, nitro all the way:D For outright speed, electric:O

With the advent of Ni-MH batteries unless you are running very silly motors runs times are now much longer. Even running a 15x2 motor I can get 15 mins out of my Blitzer Beetle and thats a real old school technology buggy/truck, although fully ball raced its hardly the best chassis ever created but it seriously fun and only cost
