Tuner recommendations Southampton

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any decent places to get stuff done on a Fabia VRS local to Southampton?

I've read a little about the place in Portsmouth on this forum, but I'd like to stay as far away from the fishy place as possible. My local Skoda dealer seems to think there's a VAG tuning specialist in Northam, Southampton although I haven't had the chance to check yet.

Any others I should be considering?

Regal are down that way, now doing plenty of VAG stuff.

yeh, that's one i found via google. Do have any experience / knowledge of them? I think they offer a remap by GIAC but I've no idea who they are. I'm a complete novice when it comes to having your car played with in this way!

I have a fair bit of experiance wih Regal and Vauxhall tuning, a little with VAG. A friend has a TT mapped by them using GIAC software and is very impressed.

A work collegue has a Regal turbo conversion on his 1.2 Corsa and to my eyes its been done very well

Been there for a nosey and also had a nosey around at their stands at Trax and GTi Inters.

Must say it's not somone I'd be spending any money with.

i must agree with stu... i've had a few unfortunate dealings with regal. wont be going there again!!

The Yanks seem to like GIAC software on the 2.0T FSI but I have no idea what it's like on a PD130. For a REVO map if you dont fancy a trip over to Portsmouth then there is a dealer in Poole, but I have no experience of them.

There's Beatle Repairs in Southampton (023 80227766); Tim was running a Revo'd vRS himself last year, which I had a test drive in. He's an enthusiast.

I'd recommend JKM in Portsmouth; not had any mods myself, but they seviced my car and were enthusiastic and knowledgeable - they're a young business, keen to impress. I share your views on Pompey but it's relatively painless to get to JKM - they're just half a mile down the A2030 off the M27, just avoid the rush hour.

I see from another thread that you're not bothered about the stutter, but if you were I can confirm that the various Revo'd cars I test drove didn't have it. Just be careful about your warranty if the car's less than three years old. Remember that Skoda spies read these pages.

Hi Kerry - Nice to see you still around.

You able to make the Hants meet tonight?

I think that must be the place that Freeborn tried to refer me to actually. It's just round the corner from them and I'm sure this must have been the guy whose car they mentioned to me. I think they said he chopped the car in at Winchester, possibly for an se?

I may check them out. I'm only looking tentatively at the moment as the car is very new and still under warranty and I'm sure there maybe some insurance ramifications which would have to be given strong consideration. It is interesting to note that revo'd cars seem to eliminate all symptoms of the stutter since, whilst I don't feel affected, it maybe a case of things feeling 'even better' with a revo map in place.

Who knows?

It looks like JKM are the only other serious alternative and will also have to be given some thought.

What sort of stuff did you have in mind? Most garages can fit things like ARBs or suspension and for remaps, I'd be travelling rather than going to somewhere "convenient" :D

Well, I guess I'm tentatively considering the range of 'obligatory', generally non-cosmetic mods for the fabia vrs.

I gather from what I've encountered on here that we're talking one or two anti roll bars (front and rear?), something eibach suspension wise, a remap, the Seat air intake and some bigger brakes if that seems the sensible option.

I'm not interested in messing with the look of the car at all, just giving it a little performance injection at some stage, once it's fully run in and I've got 'used' to the standard set up.

I'm not into getting my hands dirty so I'd want to pay somebody / somewhere reputable to take care of the whole process. There seems to be an implication in your post that it might make more sense to source my own parts and then get them fitted at a general garage .. is that what you're getting at?
