Split Wheel Arch liner - did I do this?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Both my rear wheel arch liners are split/cracked.

The bit that's damaged is the little lip that sticks out of the bottom of the arch from the floorpan at the start of the arch.

I've never noticed these splits before and I would have thought I would have heard the rock (or minature mountain) that would have caused this whilst driving.

I have had four new tyres on the car and I wondered if the ***** at the garage had damaged them?

The wheels had been practically welded on by a previous garage that had replaced the valves on the rear wheels (never use free cheap metal dustcaps!) so the more recent garage did struggle to get them off (scratching the car and scratching the alloys).

Do you think they have damaged the wheel arch liners or could this have happened from day to day driving? Has anyone else got splits in their rear arch liners?

Yep, one of mine is split. :)

To stem the split am I better off cutting the lip tabs off?

I noticed one of mine is split at the weekend and a piece is missing from the 'lip' bit that protrudes downwards....

Mine are 3.5 years old and look like austin powers teeth unfortunatley, It just happens, Its just stones and road surfaces catching it.

Yep, one of mine is fooked. :D

'NoNails' does that work on plastic? Why not just use glue? :D

I tried many glues, and each either peeled off or the split re appeared

Someone suggested no nails, I coated the back of the split liberally let it set and then cut off the protruding bit of gunge,a little black paint spray, and you would not notice, this has held four weeks longer than any of the glues and still going

Mines fadged too, oh well doesn't affect the car really, though due to less drag from the lip im finding the car accelerates much much more aggressive and the top end speed as increased by 10mph ish.

I thought the same, but IMHO I think its more down to the weight reduction of the fallen out bits.

just checked and one of mine is split
