Looking at a 4x4 Elegance 1.8t 2moro, what 2 look for?

Featured Replies

I'm off to look at a 2002 4x4 1.8t 2moro, I know all the usual used car stuff but is there anything specific to the Octy or 4x4 version I should look for?

It's done 38k, anyone know when the cambelt is due?

Cam belt change is due at 120k (miles)

the only main concern is rear tyre wear,

Check for the mod on the bottom of the rear springs (white spacers)

whick corrects rear toe angle.

Cambelt is actually due at 60k or four years technically.

Skoda changed the cambelt change schedule for the 1.8T and if it's the same as the VRS then it should be 60,000 miles or 4 years, I'd get it done as part of the deal including water pump.

Beaten to it again Lummox!

It as far as i know has never been 40k.

The service schedule was changed a while back as the interval was to change at 120k. But as belts were breaking they advised that the belt should be inspected at 60k and 20k there after and replaced as required. Then a four year interval was added.

Most techs inc myself would never take the responsibility on saying if a belt would last 20k or not as we wouldnt fancy paying for a new engine so they get advised at 60k.

I realised my error as soon as I posted and edited it but had obviously made it onto the board.

I think you just type too quickly!:)

brilliant car

try and get them to print off a diagnostics if they can

- check tyres

- check air con

- check sunroof

- check movement of mirrors and that the mirror heater works

- check rear wiper spray - i.e. watch it in the rear vew

- scroll through trip computer until mpg (1) press button under stalk for mpg(2) to see mpg over last recorded period - you want 28+ ideally

get cambelt done

Get a diagnostic check done to see if any error codes are logged. Haldex ECU problems are not unusual but will show up on such a test.

Open the doors one at a time and check that the door-open light on the dash comes on.

If it doesnt the car could suffer from the mystery central locking issue.

Thanks for all the tips, went to see the car on the way to work this morning, too many niggles for me;

Smoked in

Two stage drivers window only worked going up

Rear bumper badly repaired and oversprayed

Stained seat and generally dirty inside

Keyed bootlid 2x 2ft scratches

Turbo noisy when accelerating from low rpm

All in all I'm not buying this one, I've got two more to look at tomorrow.

Spoke to the guy who does my cruise control, he will fit it for

I'm glad you had the confidence to walk away. :)

There are plenty of good ones out there - hold on til you find the one for you!

Naythan

You have PM

Chris

mines not out there and its currently not exactly a good one either :(

its all fine apart from the gearbox, engine, aircon, drivers door light switch thingy though so not much to sort out

Found a clean 4x4 estate at a Skoda dealers, 51 plate, 40k on the clock for

Sounds like it could be a good result :)

Just got back from looking at a very tidy 02 plate with 61k on the clock, home serviced since 38k, needs 4 tyres and a cambelt, asking for

Off to look at the one in Brum tomorrow, hopefully it'll be good!

how about the one that has just been talked about on here?

low milage, very well looked after and nicely modified :)

I bought the one from Brum, it's at a main dealer, supplied by them, all services by them and they're going to give it a 40k service and MOT before I get it.

It had a broken climate panel and child window lock, plus a knackered armrest, all of which they'll sort before I get it on Friday. It's had a Selca alarm/immobiliser fitted by them too. Cruise is going on next week.

Sounds like a bit of a result - nice price for sure!

Defo, well chuffed, funnily enough they weren't prepared to deal any more on price!! Got an AA 1yr warranty thrown in though.

Just booked my cruise control fitting with the guy who did my Audi,

  • Author

Well, I picked it up yesterday and true to their word they serviced and MOT'd it, replaced the climate panel, drivers door window switches and the central armrest. All taxed, half a tank of fuel and warranty info, turns out it has a Selco alarm/immobiliser too.

Spent a bit of time this morning sorting a few bits;

Child locks

Tyre pressures (they were 27-29 psi all round)

Clean the door shuts

A good vaccuum as this han't been done

Fit my satnav

Remove dealer taxdisc holder and fit my preferred one

Swap tyres left to right as the nearsides are quite worn on the edges

Remove 2ft long dealer transfer from rear window (half an hour with Autoglym tar remover)

Refit drivers side wiper arm as it was striking the A-pillar on the way home

Adjust rear wiper

Order some rubber matts

Remove auction number from windscreen as it actually made it to the auction but they brought it back for me to look at!

Fill autochanger

Order Brodit bracket for my phone

Quite a list!!! Some should have been done prior to sale but heyho, sometimes it's easier to just do things yourself rather than whinge at the dealer, drive 65 miles each way to have an argument then end up doing most of it yourself anyway!! That and when I paid

Just got back from having cruise fitted, Gareth the guy who did it is a top bloke and is very reasonable, he sorted anti hijack locking and selective unlocking for me whilst I was there too. Picking up the mats tomorrow then need to decide whether to remap or not!!

- Remap - Do It!
