Fabia A/C

Featured Replies

Mine's not blowing out anything like conditioned air at the moment. Is there a way to tell, either visually/audibly, or with VAG-COM, whether they compressor is functioning correctly?

I need to know whether it's a case of just needing re-gassing, or if it's something more serious.

Cheers.

fan operation ?

if you turn it on when you are driving , you should feel a noticible difference when its turned back off again , especially at a steady throttle

Same problem here Steve, had it re-gassed and still no joy so i'm gonna put in an evap temp sensor tonight.

How much did the re-gassing set you back, out of interest? Never needed to have any car done.

Best of luck with yours

I got it done as part of my service, but i think all in it was 90 quid.

VAGCOM should tell you any sensor that may be faulty, or your flap motor could be goosed, caused my aircon to stay at a certain temp untill it was fixed.

I was told today at work there's something to re-gas the AC at Halfords for

Kwik Fit,

Thanks guys.

Ric - I suspected there might be a variation in throttle, so hit the AC button on and off at idle, but no change in revs?

Thanks for the re-gas tips. I'd spotted that Kwik-Fit were doing some deal, but to be honest don't think I'd trust them :thumbdwn: - maybe if it was a 'while-you-wait' service? I shall enquire at least; there's a branch on my way to work.

Plenty of mobile air con specialists in the phone book, Steve and when I had my Fabia done it cost 60 quid and they did it on my driveway. If you do a fault scan with VAG-COM it should highlight any A/C related problems, but from what you've said it could well be the infamous Evap Temp Sensor :D

Chris

If it does need re-gassing, go to any halfords and they should be able to check the level of gas in the system. We have portable testers which plug into the hi-port side of the aircon to check for gas. If its low 29.99 will get you a refill and its easy peasy to do yourself, ie connect to same port and press valve with aircon running.

The aircon on my Octavia played up recently. Took it to halfords and they checked the pressure, and after that they suggested I go to a specialist.

The specialist did similar, predicted multi-hundred quid gloom and doom and booked the car in for full investigation.

At that point, it turned out that the pulley had fallen off the end of the pump, they refitted it (inc. shimming), drained, lubed, refilled & tested.

I have used the tins of refil gas before. The do work quite well but they will never give you the overall results of a proper refil as the system has to be put under a vaccum to fill properly

Cheers Chris - is there a way of actually pinpointing the fault to this temp sensor, without changing it anyway? Will any related codes be displayed in VAG-COM, for example?

On the furby (as it's straight aircon rather than climate control), the pump going on and off has a marked effect on the fuel consumption. If your got the computer, and a flat road, you can try turning it on and watch the figures change (or not). Best check the pressure first though.

Thanks, but the Fabia doesn't have straight aircon, it's a half-way house really. As I understand, it's actually running all the time, albeit to a less degree without the 'AC' switch activated.

I had a quick search through my old posts (memory like a goldfish, me!) and turned this up.....

Address 8 One fault found 00818 sensor for evaporater outlet temp (G263)

Which was the fault I was getting and was fixed by replacing the sensor mentioned....
