left hand sterring columb control?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Weve just bought an 03 1.8t 4x4 estate, very pleased with it so far I must say, but cannot find in the owners manual(the pages are blank!) what the left hand control does on the steering columb.

We obviuosly know that it does the left/right indicators, main beam/flash etc, but it also has another control with a = and - on it on the face of the control, what is this part!

Sounds like Cruise Control to me.

Should have Set, Resume, + and -

Slide the slidy thing to the left and it engages the cruise control hold it there and the car will speed up. Press button on end and car will slow. Slide slidy thing to right and the cc will disengage. Press brake or clutch and cc will disengage. Use accelerator car will speed up but cc will not disengage and will drop back down to set speed when you release the accelerator. Practice on a long quiet stretch of road.

Sorry for bad sentence structure ... I'm being lazy today

Just a note the newer ones look like this :

And operation is slightly different.

I think you'll find to engage CC you need the slider in the on position and then once traveling at the desired speed press the button on the end to set the speed.

The slider is three position - Off, On (I would leave it there all the time) and Resume. Resume will set the previously set speed if you have disengaged it either with the brake, clutch or by moving the slider.

The rest is as above.

When the ignition is turned off set speed is lost.

cheers for that, I'll give it a go tonight to familiarise my self with it.

That would make sense ... I've got the newer one fitted in mine and you use the bottom button to set the speed or reduce the speed. Though if I press and hold for a second the res(+) button that also acts to set the speed.

The one querk I've also found is if I am pressing the reduce speed button and then have to hit the brakes the ECU completely forgets my set speed and I have to set the speed again.
