A complete newbie type question..but please try and help

Featured Replies

Ok, I have just recently been introduced to the world of the Fabia. Last Saturday to be precise.

I have a question, please forgive me if it is incredibly dumb but my previous car was 13 years old and the fabia has things I am still getting used to.

Are the displays supposed to stay on when the keys are out of the ignition?

I have even tried locking the doors and they just stay on, is this normal?

Again I apologise for the dumbnes of this question, please don't laugh at me too much.

Welcome to Briskoda.

When you mean the display, do you mean the clock, etc???

Yes the clock and the display that shows how many miles you have done

I think mine stays on all the time, so nothing to worry about.

Ok, what about the cigarette lighter? I use one of those doubler thingies that allows me to put two things in the one socket, the red light on that stays on and also the things plugged into it stay on. The simple solution is dont leave it in, but i was wondering if that was normal too?

Yes anything plugged into 12V Supply or Cigarette lighter will stay on if the car is off, as it is powered directly from the battery.

So would unplug everything when the car is not running as it will drain your battery over time.

IS this a wind up???

  • Author

Sorry to dissapoint you but NO this isnt a wind up. I am ttally new to the Fabia, hell I am totally new to any car that isnt 13 years old and as basic as they come. So if my question seemed stupid to you Welshy I'm sorry.

ok fair enough - its just that there are a few trolls about here who bait others.

I would have thought when you bought the car the seller/dealer would have given a demonstration of how the remote central locking works and if you turn the key the other way with windows open it closes them etc.

  • Author

Nope, didnt get any of that, been reading my way through the manual slowly, and piecing things together.

Oh and its not remote central locking, just bog standard key in the door central locking :(...have considered an aftersales kit though.

And I cant see how making an enquiry about the ignition and the display can act as a way of baiting others...but there you go.

There are still a lot of things I am not sure about, but im sure, if im not considered to be a troll, ill be able to find my answers here.

Thank you to the people that helped :)

No question is dumb if you don't know the answer.

It might help others to help you if you were to provide some information about your vehicle?

Year, Model, variant etc. - just a thought :)

when I got the GP, my dealer spent time (with me sat in the drivers seat) showing me all the menus... i.e how to have stereo display on the dash display, how to set up the "auto locking" (anti hijack) how to set up the blue & me phone pairing, and mps player ect ect ... (even has "follow me home" lights, I would never have come accross this function without him showing it to me!)

 to my local dealer :)

note to skoda UK: you lost me as a customer because of your dealers, and VERY poor customer service....

Ok, I have a 2001 Skoda Fabia. 1.9 TDi Diesel

Umm not sure what else to tell you...oh its a comfort.

yep there are some real trolls on here:eek:

Another little gem for you in case you havent found it, around leaving things on.

If you still have the skoda supplied radio, and you leave it on, it will automatically shut it self off after 20 mins(was my default setting). There is a setting within the radio that will allow you to change this timing. Check the radio manual.

Ok, got a new question for you fellas. How do you guys rate after sales remote central locking units, and how easy are they to fit, im pretty much a novice.

Rightclick

Anyone used the above? It looks simple enough.

How much am i looking at to get the key fob changed to match my car? Is it really expensive?

I have done some searches of the forum but the threads I have looked havent really given me the answers I am looking for.

Thank you in advance for the help :)
