Hello, Romania is calling!

Featured Replies

Hi! I'm Andrei from Romania and I have just bought an Octavia 2 days ago. To be more precise, it is an Octavia II 1.6 FSI Elegance.

The adventure began 2 months ago, when I went to the local dealer Delcar for ordering my car. The guy told me that the factory in the Czech Rep. is hardly coping with the demand, so that I'll have to wait till September for the car to be built.

But one week ago, he called me and told that the car is at the border and that it will be here after few days. Nice done, Skoda guys!!!

I am very pleased with my new ride. I must say that I have never driven something like this before. I am very proud with my FSI. I don't know how is it in other countries, but in Romania 80% of the Octavias are TDIs and the ones powered by gas are MPIs. The only FSIs I have seen are the RSs.

Cool! Glad you're enjoying your new car! Welcome to Briskoda! :wavey:

Welcome to Briskoda Andrei.

Your English is far more accurate than many of our native speakers :D

In the UK the petrol engined octavias are a lot less common than the diesel ones. Most seem to be bought by either taxi drivers or as company cars and fuel economy is very important with the high prices we pay over here.

How much is petrol in Romania?

Oh , and what did you drive before?

Well, petrol is about 3.50 lei (1.11 EUR or .75 GBP) and Diesel is about 3.15 lei (1.00 EUR or .67 GBP). The TDIs are more economic if you drive a lot, but there are also other reasons for I have chosen the FSI (sound, performance, tough winters).

I drove a South-Korean car called Daewoo Cielo (Nexia). I don't know if you heard about it. Now you understand why I said that I have never driven something like this before?

That's less than we pay for fuel - about 96p a litre for petrol or diesel at the moment.

Oh , and I have seen the Nexia which is based on a very old Opel Astra. They never sold well over here and I know what you mean about it being a huge jump to go from that to the Octavia :D

They have never sold well anywhere in Europe, but it is made in Romania (worse than the Korean ones), so after Dacia, it is a national car and they had pretty good sells. Of course, because of the low price (about 7500 EUR), not because of the high quality. Anyway, if there is a good point at this car, it is the fiability. I think you have seen the Nexia hatchback (this is the only version I have seen in Western Europe), but I had a sedan one.

Anyway, enough with Daewoo. We're on a Skoda forum, aren't we? The bad old days are gone.:)

If they sold the Dacia Logan in Britain at the equivalent price I think it would sell OK.

But as you say , this is a Skoda site and the days of cheap basic cars are long gone :)

Welcome to Briskoda.

Romania is on my list of places to visit before I die :)

Which is the position of Skoda and Octavia in the British selling charts?

In Romania, Skoda is the 2nd foreign brand (after Renault) and Octavia is among the first 4 foreign models (close to Clio, Megane and Fabia).

Skoda is 15th in June and 17th for the whole year so far according to last month's new car sales figures.

Just behind MINI and ahead of Seat
