Disabling EGR thru VAG-COM in Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

So is it true that disabling EGR with VAG-COM can NOT be done in Fabia vRS? On Stu's fabia-vrs pages are instructions how-to but for example on Rosstech and TDIclub -sites they say that this instruction doesn't apply to PD-engines. And aren't the engine in vRS a PD-engine? :)

So has anybody done this mod with success?

EDIT: So of course actually I'm meaning turning the EGR down a bit, not completely disabling it. Sorry mates...

Using Vag-Com I have managed to turn the EGR down in both EUIII and EUIV vRSes, but never managed to get it to turn right off. However turning it down did reduce the stutter on the EUIV.

:iagree:

Same process roughly but not possible to switch off, only turn down.

After reading up on the EGR I know a bit more about its effects (wikipedia is a wonderful thing). Does it improve power and reduce soot like the science says it should when turned down or are the effects not that noticable?

Effects are pretty much invisible, tbh.

Yeah thats what I found. I suppose it chucks less crap through the system therfore keeping it cleaner longer.

Ah I see. Ok.

I suppose on the older engines that don't have as much EGR then there's not much point fiddling with it.

agree. Just leave it. Just one morething suk can come back with.

On my vRS engine ASZ the maximum value admitted by ECU after "disabling" EGR with vag-com - module Engine, channel 03 - is 33638 corresponding to 350 mg/H MAF (specified) and cca 50% EGR duty cycle

The standard is 32768 - 265 mg/H MAF (specified) - cca 65% EGR duty cycle

Did anyone obtain more than this on vRS ? Stu site says smthg about 370 mg/H, but as I checked the reparation manual 350 mg/H is the maximum into (actual) normal values

How the MAF (idle) values influence the fuel consumption ? (350 mg/H vs. 265 mg/H)

The further issue is that at 50% EGR duty cycle the engine (turbo) is whistling at idle (as it does also after cca 1 minute staying at idle with the standard values - when the EGR is self-disabling to cca 4,6% duty cycle)

Can someone confirm this behaviour?

Mine also would only go to 350.

And yes my car also whistles more at idle since altering the EGR

any changing in fuel consumption?

it seems like the mpg is worse with the EGR down (disabled) and the engine is reaching the temperature slower than before - at least in city driving
