Disconnected battery + remap = ?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

The car is almost ready and the garage have put the fmic and garrett turbo in. But while the car was being worked on, the battery was kept disconnected. Yesterday the garage said they charged it slowly but the battery was only holding the charge for 10 minutes. I found this strange as the car is only 1 1/2 yrs old. Hopefully should have it back tomorrow evening with a service and brake fluid change too

Anyway my question is, say the battery is disconnected for a week or so, will the remap (Revo in this case) remain in the ecu or will it be lost? I understand that some remaps can be lost quite easily but Revo etc are encrypted and stored differently?

EDIT: I've done a search and it looks like the 2.0tfsi is affected but I'm not sure about the pd130

You'll be fine.

The TFSI doesn't lose the map simply the Timing and Boost variables.

Thanks for that. Just hope I don't need to re-remap the car with the new bits in place

to get the most out of what you have had fitted it would be best to get it custom remapped again

Yes but that requires money! Going to see how it drives for a month or two then I might get it mapped again if I'm not happy with the performance.

Yeah as Stu says, the ECU firmware is overwritten with the Revo MAP so that is non-volatile. The memory which does all the tweaking and fine tuning which overlays the map will have been cleared so next time you drive the car it will be in "rapid-learning" mode to rebuild that overlay.

so next time you drive the car it will be in "rapid-learning" mode to rebuild that overlay.

So go drive it like you stole it :D

He does

lol! So true! But the mechanic will be test driving it this morning I'd imagine to see that the engine is all ok, then they're going to service it. So I won't be the one whose going to drive it in the rapid learning mode. I thought the ecu adapts over time to your driving style anyway?

It does - it will be fine tuning all the time. However, if there's no numbers to tune then it needs to get some pronto ;)

Just out of curiosity, how much difference does it make when the ecu adapts itself? I thought that there would be some set values and it puts a set amount of fuel etc into the engine according to the throttle? I'm confussled lol

The MAP provides the set values. The overlay supplies the fine tuning parameters which tweak the preset values.

Done a Google and this site hopefully explains everything you ever wanted to know about them.....
