Euro NCAP 4 stars

Featured Replies

man, i wasn't expecting that.

Disaster with 6 airbags!

me and my mate have had a running joke for a while that when some looks in pain or got a funny face on we say you been in a fabia because on the website for the mk2 where it shows the airbags or it was somewhere else it looked like you got hit in the face back of the neck and in the side of the head at once. i think just getting hit that many times in the face is a dangerous lol

to me it looks like the only reason it lost one star was for not being pedestrian friendly.

I thought the pedestrian rating was separate from the occupant rating?

It is. The reason it was marked down to a 4 was because "structures in the dashboard presented a risk of injury to the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger".

Surely when they designed the car they should have thought...hmmmm... this sticks out a bit, lets change it? especialy if you are a 6 footer like me.

Not good for a car that really should have got 5 stars like the Roomster.

As this chassis is shared with the VW Polo, we should theoretically see 5 stars if the dash is different?

Poor offering there Skoda, especially as the main structure of the car is probably worth 5 stars, let down by some plastics inside?

Just my tp worth.

If it's designed differently in the relevant places...from the NCAP comment it seems to suggest it's something around the glovebox area, not sure how different they are between the Polo and Fabia?

Would imagine there's not a massive amount of different between 4 and 5 star in terms of survival terms - probably not enough to justify totally redesigning the dash and presumably also retooling...

Rob.

Only a 4 Star rating - Pretty serious stuff for a brand new car in a highly competitive market.

I agree. It may be nothing between having 4 and 5 stars , but I think every new car should be developed to attain a 5 star rating , 'only' getting 4 stars on a brand new design is poor , IMHO.

I bet the marketing department hit the roof when they got the news from the Technical Engineers. I'm sure a few people at Skoda HQ will be looking for new jobs due to this.

Whats the point of the pole-test? is that in case you fit a Jabba ARB and get really crossed-up on your local tescos carpark? seems irrelevent to me

EDIT: also for a bit of "perspective" to how far cars structural safety has come... watch the Rover 100 vid

Not the current Polo its not, the Fabia 2 in currently a Skoda only job.

I guess the sponge bodywork and custard pies for airbags just doesn't cut the mustard

Mustard? In a cake? That'll be where they're going wrong!

Sorry, should have elaberated more.

Will the next polo share this platform? don't manufacturers share the chassis to save money?

Yes , the next Polo (and Ibiza) will be on the same platform as Fabia 2. Skoda get it first so we get to iron out all the bugs for the posh lot....lol

very disappointed with the 4 stars.every new car should have 5 stars !!!

does the roomster have 5 stars ?

i see that it does !!

Yes, it is ashame, it only need 1 point (i.e. 33) to make 5 stars like the Punto!

the old one only got four stars but still did a good job at saving my missus from some pretty horrific injuries in a head on so I'm not attributing too much to these latest findings!

And likewise the Roomster got 5 stars and looked a right mess in the photos posted up on here. As with anything, the results are very specific tests which aren't really applicable to the real world. Maybe a guide, but not worth relying on...

Exactly ... they obviously just don't give the old fabia vrs enough of a points premium for the 'built like a tank' factor.

Emergency crews mistakenly referred to mine as a 'Golf' until they were corrected. They later explained it was because they'd never seen anything else handle such a collision so 'well'
