Door Seals - Dealer Fix?

Featured Replies

My 06 VRS has the usual N/S rear door leak just starting to happen. I've seen the guide to doing it and it doesn't look too difficult but as the car is still under warranty I'm thinking of taking it to the dealers to repair. What are peoples experiences of dealer repairs for this common fault. I'm in Hull and Barkers don't have the best reputation.

Hi KR,

I had this fix done in October via the dealership (Simpsons in Colne), i reported that the rear window was misting during wet conditions, and that the N/S rear door was leaking water when it rained (i took a pic)... they fixed it without question!

Dealer repairs are a bit hit-and-miss, as can be the 'Brisky method'. I chose to do mine myself, as the dealer where I got the car closed, and there was nowhere else close enough / good enough IMO to take it to. But then I like to tinker! I must admit, my Brisky fix hasn't been totally successful in this unseasonal weather, although I didn't follow the instructions 100% to the letter (they hadn't been posted on VRStu's site back then IIRC!) As it's as much down to the design as the materials and workmanship, I think it's probably down to how you feel about the dealer. Their fix might not work, but then DIYing it might not either.

It's f$%^ing annoying, actually...

Pulleyn's in York sorted out my girlfriend's door leak with very little fuss. They were very helpful.

Should point out, I've not heard on here of anyone ever having a dealer refuse to do it (although a few have apparently claimed never to have seen it before!); all I'm saying is that there's a slim chance the fix might not work...

Thanks for the replies, the car was supplied by Pulleyn's so might give them a try. Barkers did my mates, denied they'd ever heard of the problem but said they'd check both rear doors, when he left both rear doors leaked when it rained that night!

im more of a fan of doing it yourself with a job like this because as has been said you dont know if the dealer had done anything really after so id be unndoing it asap to check the work lol so might aswell diy it and know its beeing done. and really ive not seen any complaints on here myself of it not working if you follow the guide stus put up

The skoda wasn't supplied by Pulleyn's but they sorted it straight out no fuss at all. No messing or fibbing. Such was the service that her parents and myself bought VRS SE's from them.

I suppose it really depends on who you talk to about everything as to whether they have heard of the problem before. The salesman a Pulleyn's didn't have a clue about the stutter whereas the guy in hull kept rambling on about it. Good luck sorting it out.

Mine was also done by Pulleyns. Took them 2x attempts to get the N/S rear door sorted but the others were ok first time.

This will only be covered under the original 3 year warranty too, not an extended one as that does not cover water ingress. But, if you are under the 3 year manufacturer warranty then get them to sort it if you can. Their work will also be covered by warranty meaning if it goes wrong again you can just take it straight back.

had my taken in to be done, have a phone call 2 weeks later saying they had to replace the front seals aswell!?! done under warranty, and they even cleaned my car, white dove in cardiff are very good

On cars that are in warranty, Skoda UK have instructed the dealers to re-seal all 4 doors even if only one is reported to be leaking.

Correct. That's what the dealer told me.
