V-Power Diesel in the Fabia Vrs

Featured Replies

I notice a lot of you that claim these high MPG figures (not 400mpg or 500mpg lol) have modded cars, specifically remapped.

It would appear then that the standard vRS is rubbish on fuel but a remap cures that?

Mine was turning in 52 mpg pre-remap and 55 mpg after. The standard vRS's economy isn't rubbish, but it will be poor for the first 5000 miles and doesn't peak until 12K miles.
500 miles!?!! wow....any mods to ur car at all? and what sort of roads do you drive on a weekly basis??

500 miles for me would be godsend! I'd only need to fill up twice a month as oppose to my 3.5 times in previous corsa 1.2 if I had that mpg on my vrs

Jase runs an LPG conversion as well Simtub ;)

Yes V-Power works. You need to run it all the time, and you'll notice a difference. Easiest way to tell, is to use humdrum diesel after 3 tanks of V-power, all the performance disappears. On V-power the car certainly feels better in the mid range, and it revs out a whole lot better. Fuel economy doesn't change, well mine didn't, but then I used the extra urge more often.

Only problem I have is going away from London I struggle to find V-power at the moment.

Aha, so you are all using the expansion tank. Thought as much.

Since changing my air filter and having my broken EGR replaced my fuel economy has gone up by about 10 miles to a quarter of a tank which is nice, so we'll see how we get on. I'm not expecting to go much further than 400 miles from a normal tank though.

I've often considered doing a ventectomy but am unsure as to the dangers of filling the expansion tank, especially in summer. It must be there for a reason.

It's interesting too how people get better mpg post remap. Most remaps up the fuelling along with the boost, so with it chucking in more juice it's breaking the laws of physics by getting better mpg.

Does a remap open up a tear in space time so you can reach your destination without actually going anywhere? Perhaps that explains the increase in mpg... :D

My understanding is that post remap you have more torque so there are circumstances where you can drive the car at the same speed but in a higher gear (lower revs, less fuel, etc). Can't really see a point in a remap if you're not going to make use of the extra power though and my economy is the same before and after!

Chris

That's what puzzles me. The extra torque must come from somewhere, and more power must mean more boost and fuelling. There's no such thing as a free lunch. ;)

Mmmmmm free lunch :D

I figured that even squirting in enough fuel to produce more torque, the fact that the revs are lower due to being in a higher gear outweighed that. Either that or the remappers monkey about with how the figures that the computer uses to calculate fuel economy are generated...

Chris

Ignition timing and length of burn.

Basically it's Witchcraft. Best not to meddle or we will all get turned into sheep who pay 10p extra a litre for fuel that gives us 2p per litre of benefit.

Fuel economy on the standard map is... "consistant" ie within 5mpg however you drive it..

when remapped, on a mway journey youll see over 55mpg at a cruise-controlled 80mph.. but when remapped if you use the performance your economy will drop.. ive seen 28mpg worst-case (17mpg if you include track-time) "spirited" driving for me usually is 40-45mpg... although recently ive been hoofing it everywhere which is giving me about 38mpg.. or about 42 over the tank.. this is with a full mixture of roads inc some late-night motorway blasts ;)

in my old job with mostly motorway miles, i used to get 650m to a tank (plus expansion)

This is with slightly tweeked Revo map btw... and a nicely run-in engine.. 94k now :D

face it, faster car, you drive faster :D

Had V-power diesel in the tank for over a week now..

Noticed that the stuttering at low revs that the larger diameter EGR Gasket problem on post 06 engines hasnt occured and I'm experience very smooth acceleration.

I'm going to fill her up with another few tanks across the next few weeks then go back on a refuel of normal diesel to see if the stuttering problem comes back.
