Fabia vRS engine screech

Featured Replies

The screech is only present for a split second at around 2200 revs when accelerating rapidly. It is most evident in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. It reminds me of the sound you hear when a rubber vee belt is slipping over a seized pulley wheel.

This screech has been a characteristic of my car for the five months in my ownership and TBH, because the performance does not seem to be affected, it doesn't bother me unduly.

I'm only questioning this now, because a friend, on hearing the screech, felt that I should find out more as to the source. (He thought it might be related to the turbo. I know little about turbos so couldn't comment one way or the other.)

Does anyone out there share a similar experience?

Incidentally, there is no screech if I accelerate really gently.

I'll visit the dealer, but would appreciate your input beforehand.

I get similar occasionally - I presume / ed it was the fanbelt just giving a chirp under demand

Mine does something similar... I worried for a bit but from reading threads around and about, I found out it's not unusual.

It seems to do it all the time, moderate through hard acceleration, lights, hi-fi, air-con on or not, makes no difference. Only time it does nothing is if I accelerate very lightly...

s'a feature.

In my case it's only if I floor it - fanbelt slightly slipping on the pulley due to excessive demand I presume. Other times - nothing.

Interesting point! In other words, how I described the sound could be what is actually happening.

You're sure it's not the turbo spooling up?

As I said in the original post, turbos ain't my thing. I don't know what "spooling-up" sounds like. However, one of the other posts actually gives another description of the sound which is also quite accurate - "chirp". So, would "chirp" or "screech" describe the "spooling-up" sound? Also, am I correct in thinking that the "spooling-up" sound you refer to is a perfectly normal characteristic of turbo's?

Your and the other posts, have reinforced my original thoughts that I've nowt to be worried about. Thanks, guys. As I said at the outset the noise didn't bother me unduly anyway.

I started the thread as I was curious as to whether my experience was unique/unusual?

It is normal for the turbo to "screech" when winding up to full chat.

Mine screeched or chirped since I got the car, more noticeable after the remap (only had the car 2 seconds before mapping it though!). However I'd keep an eye on the noise. A brief chirp or screech is fine but when its quite a long screech ie between 2-2.5k rpm then I'd get it checked out as my turbo blew the day after it started doing it! Someone on the uk-mkivs.net forum found the same.

My turbo screached. a week later i had 3l of engine oil in my intercooler, and SUK picked up a

Mine's always screeched, just thought it was normal, hope so!
