40k service

Featured Replies

Due now unfortunately,

Id like to know roughly how much i should be paying, what is a rip off and what is a good price? This is my first skoda service, having bought the car in Jan.

Also I live in oxford, so my nearest dealer is Jewson, but i havent heard rave reviews about it, nor the next nearest Meritts.

Im prepared to travel for a decent service (not too far though). what are everyone's thoughts on these or other dealers near by?

cheers all :)

The 40k service will depend in price. It's a major service (all filters and inspection), but if the car is 4 years old, you'll also want the cambelt (and waterpump) doing at the same time which will push the price up a lot.

As for dealers - have you considered a local independent VAG specialist?

Chris

For just the 40k (not cambelt etc), parts are about

Just carried out my own 40K service on 1.9TDi estate.Main problem, checking power steering fluid level, which required removing battery and tray, which in turn required removing total air filter assembly. What a performance!!

My level was below minimum and didn't even show on the dipstick. No wonder ther are power streering component problems.

Not advising fluid level checking till 40K is criminal.

May I propose the Nobel peace prize for stupid car design be awarded to the goon at Skoda who put the rsevoir in this position.

It might not be relevant, but that reservoir is mounted directly on top of the pump assembly. I know that this does not really excuse them not providing an extension tube with a longer dipstick, but I suppose/hope that there is a real design case for this current installation.

Common sense must indicate don't put the resevoir under the battery or,if the resevoir has to be there, don't put the battery on top of it,either way it is ridiculous.I wonder how many service sheets get that inspection ticked as OK without it actually being checked because of the procedure?
